New visual communication technology and changing regulatory environments are increasing the demand for video services. Fiber systems are providing the bandwidth for new services, however much of the video access equipment and narrowband access equipment have developed as separate entities, often being supplied by separate networks.)gy combining narrowband and broadband equipment into a common network, synergies may occur t o reduce the installation cost and maintenance cost.-wi-ll look at the pote ai into a sing1 ergies that can occur e. Powering options f o r the narrowband and broadband electronics w explored. Powering of the equipment by A C or D C sources, battery reserve considerations, and emergency powering must be considered. Physical arrangements of equipment, powering cables, and the outside plant 4 4 1 be discussed. The impact of coupling nairrowband and broadband equip.ment on installati alarms, administration support, and maintenance will b e covered. w J , 1 The use of digital narrowband transmission and ana,log video transmission over fiber are technologies that exist today and can be utilized by access providers t o provide current and future broadband services. Fiber technologies are providing the mechanisms for broadband services, what remains, t o be done is a cost effective implementation of these technologies into a network t o promote growth of the access business.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
