Die Ersatzstoff‐ und Ersatzverfahrensprüfung sind wesentliche Formalien des Gefahrstoffrechts und notwendige Instrumente der Fachlehrkraft für Chemie, um Experimente im Chemieunterricht an aktuelle Anforderungen anpassen zu können, die sich aus veränderten Parametern ergeben, wie z. B. Fachraumwechsel, veränderten Lerngruppen oder verschärften GHS‐Einstufungen von Stoffen.
In dieser Arbeit wird am Beispiel von tradierten Experimenten (z. B. „Das sinkende Schiff“) mit Polystyrol (PS) aufgezeigt, wie mit Hilfe einer pragmatischen Methode leicht entzündbare, fruchtschädigende und neurotoxische Lösungsmittel gegen weniger gefährliche Lösungsmittel ausgetauscht werden können.
Die Sicherheit im experimentellen Chemieunterricht kann durch solche Ersatzstoffprüfungen gesteigert werden, wodurch eine stärkere Schüleraktivierung durch Schülerexperimente ermöglicht wird.
