Objetivo. Determinar el efecto del extracto etanólico de Chuquiraga spinosa (huamanpinta) sobre el síndrome metabólico (SM) e hipercolesterolemia inducidas en ratas con fructosa y colesterol. Materiales y Métodos. Se indujo el SM con la administración vía oral de fructosa al 60% P/V durante 90 días y la inducción de hipercolesterolemia fue mediante la administración oral de solución de colesterol a una dosis diaria de 120 mg/kg suspendida en goma de tragacanto al 2%. Se formaron 06 grupos de 15 animales cada grupo, dividido en grupo blanco negativo (solución salina fisiológica) y positivo (fructosa más colesterol), extracto etanólico a dosis de 50, 250 y 500 mg/kg y un grupo atorvastatina más enalapril a 20 mg/kg (se administró fructosa más colesterol a todos los grupos). Los tratamientos respectivos se iniciaron en el día 31 posinducción y se continuó con la inducción coadministrando los tratamientos hasta los 90 días. Se determinó el perfil lipídico, glicemia y niveles de presión arterial. En la determinación de la toxicidad crónica se realizó la evaluación a nivel hematológico y bioquímico de todos los grupos que fueron inducidos y recibieron tratamiento. Resultados. Se obtuvo una disminución de los niveles de colesterol total, triglicéridos, glucosa, presión arterial y del peso corporal, así como una elevación de los niveles de HDL-colesterol, que fueron estadísticamente significativos (p<0,05). En la determinación de la toxicidad crónica se observo que no hubo toxicidad y no se evidenció alteraciones anatomopatológicas. Conclusiones. El extracto etanólico de Chuquiraga spinosa presenta efecto positivo sobre los niveles de perfil lipídico, glucosa y presión arterial inducido en ratas, sin efectos tóxicos.Palabras clave: Síndrome metabólico, hipercolesterolemia, toxicidad crónica, Chuquiraga spinosa (Fuente: DeCS)
El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar el efecto de un suplemento alimenticio a base de insumos naturales y componentes bioactivos de especies vegetales sobre el comportamiento sexual. Es una investigación experimental, prospectiva y longitudinal. Para el ensayo se utilizó 150 ratas albinas: 75 hembras y 75 machos de raza Holtzmann de 12 semanas de edad, con un peso promedio de 200 a 250 g. (machos) y de 150 – 200 g. (hembras). Se evaluaron dos productos: Uno que contenía el extracto de las raíces de siete especies vegetales a dosis de 200 y 400mg/kg y Dos que contenía el producto uno más harina de castaña y Sacha inchi a dosis de 830mg/kg. El ensayo se realizó por 10 semanas y las evaluaciones se ejecutaron a la octava, novena y décima semanas (días 1, 7 y 14 respectivamente). Asimismo, se realizó la evaluación de los parámetros bioquímicos, hematológicos, testosterona y antígeno prostático-específico (PSA). Los productos Uno a dosis de 400mg/kg y Dos a dosis de 830mg/kg presentaron efecto significativo sobre el comportamiento sexual comparados con los grupos control y el estándar (sildenafilo 5mg/kg). No se presentaron cambios a nivel bioquímico ni hematológico. Se concluye que los productos ensayados presentaron efecto sobre el comportamiento sexual aumentando la líbido en las ratas machos, sin efectos secundarios sobre los parámetros bioquímicos y hematológicos.
Objetivo. Evaluar la actividad antioxidante in vitro de los diferentes extractos obtenidos del fruto de Physalis peruviana L. (aguaymanto) y fruto fresco mediante el método DPPH, ABTS; los componentes fitoquímicos cualitativamente y cuantificar el contenido ácido ascórbico (vitamina C). Materiales y Métodos. Se obtuvo el extracto acuoso y acuoso liofilizado a partir del fruto de Physalis peruviana L., y el zumo fresco del cual se determinó el screening fitoquímico preliminar, la captación del radical DPPH, ABTS y el contenido de ácido ascórbico. Resultados. En el screening fitoquímico se hallaron compuestos fenólicos, flavonoides, alcaloides, saponinas y aminoácidos. El fruto y los extractos evidenciaron moderada capacidad antioxidante frente al trolox y presentó un porcentaje de capacidad antioxidante menor al 50% frente al trolox. A partir del porcentaje de inhibiciónconcentración en el DPPH y mediante un análisis lineal se determinó la CI50; Se demostró que el extracto acuoso liofilizado posee mayor capacidad antioxidante (20,55 µg/mL) en comparación con el extracto acuoso y fruto fresco. Mediante el método del ABTS también se observó mayor capacidad antioxidante del extracto acuoso liofilizado (2,48 ± 0,04 µmol trolox/g muestra), pero presentó menor cantidad de vitamina C en comparación con el extracto acuoso y fruto fresco. Conclusiones. El extracto acuoso liofilizado posee mayor capacidad antioxidante y menor cantidad de ácido ascórbico en comparación con el extracto acuoso y el fruto fresco y la mayor cantidad de vitamina C se encuentra en el fruto fresco. Objetivo: Determinar las características del uso de tocilizumab (TCZ) en pacientes hospitalizados por SARS-CoV-2, del Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo de abril a setiembre 2020. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 141 pacientes infectados por SARS-CoV-2. Se recolectó información completa de las recetas médicas registradas e historias clínicas. Resultados: La edad fue 58,9 ± 11,2 años, el 78% fueron varones, el peso fue 79,6 ± 12,0 Kg, evidenciándose que el 41,8% y 44,2% presentó sobrepeso y obesidad respectivamente. Además, 99,3% de pacientes evidenció frecuencia respiratoria mayor a 22 rpm, 97,2% presentó presión arterial menor a 100 mmHg y 99,3% saturación de oxígeno (SpO2) menor a 85% y los marcadores inflamatorios comunes fueron PCR > 100 mg/dL (75,2%), Ferritina > 700 ng/mL (59,6%), Dímero D > 1000 µg/mL (77,3%), DHL > 350 U/L (58,9%) e IL-6 > 40 pg/mL (48,9%). Por otro lado, se administraron un total de 275 unidades de TCZ siendo el costo total de S/ 703 872,40. El promedio de estancia hospitalaria fue 17,8 ± 13,6 días, observándose que el 55,3% fallecieron. Conclusión: La principal característica del uso de TCZ en el Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo fue la prescripción de este anticuerpo monoclonal en pacientes hospitalizados con COVID-19 grave, un costo total de S/ 703 872,40 y no mejoría de los porcentajes de mortalidad.
El rizoma de Cúcuma longa L. es una especie vegetal utilizada como saborizante y fines medicinales, por ello, es importante realizar estudios de toxicidad para conocer sus márgenes de seguridad. Objetivo: evaluar la toxicidad aguda y crónica del rizoma pulverizado de la Curcuma longa L. y de la curcumina en ratones y ratas albinas. Metodología: es una investigación experimental. Para el ensayo de la toxicidad aguda se utilizó 36 ratones albinos de 2 meses de edad, con un peso de 20 a 25 gramos, divididos al azar en nueve grupos de 4 animales y para la toxicidad crónica se utilizó 30 ratas albinas machos de 10 a 12 semanas de edad, con un peso promedio de 200 a 250 gramos dividido en cinco grupos de 6 animales. Los productos analizados fueron el rizoma pulverizado de Curcuma longa y la curcumina al 95 % (p/p) de pureza. Para el ensayo de toxicidad aguda se formaron cuatro grupos, a dosis de 0,5; 1,0; 1,5; y 2,0 g/kg en solución respectivamente. Para el ensayo de toxicidad crónica se utilizó el rizoma de Curcuma longa a dosis de 200, 400 y 600 mg/kg y curcumina a 20 mg/kg en solución. Se realizó la evaluación a nivel hematológico: hemograma completo y bioquímico: glucosa, urea, creatinina, perfil hepático y perfil lipídico. Resultados: La dosis letal media del rizoma de Curcuma longa y curcumina es superior a los 2000 mg/kg. En la prueba de toxicidad crónica, se evidenció variación en algunos parámetros hematológicos y bioquímicos (p<0,05), pero sin significancia clínica en comparación con el grupo control. Conclusión: El rizoma pulverizado y la curcumina no presentaron efectos tóxicos sobre los animales de experimentación.
