Erythrina velutina (EV) and Erythrina mulungu (EM), popularly used in Brazil as tranquilizing agents, were studied. The effects of acute and chronic oral treatment with a water:alcohol extract of EV (7:3, plant grounded stem bark; acute = 100, 200, 400 mg/kg; chronic = 50, 100, 200 mg/kg) were evaluated in rats (N = 11-12) submitted to the elevated T-maze (for avoidance and escape measurements) model of anxiety. This model was selected for its presumed capacity to elicit specific subtypes of anxiety disorders recognized in clinical practice: avoidance has been related to generalized anxiety and escape to panic. Additionally, animals were treated with the same doses of EV and EM (water:alcohol 7:3, inflorescence extract) and submitted to the forced swim test for the evaluation of antidepressant activity (N = 7-10). Both treatment regimens with EV impaired elevated T-maze avoidance latencies, without altering escape, in a way similar to the reference drug diazepam (avoidance 1, mean ± SEM, acute study: 131.1 ± 45.5 (control), 9.0 ± 3.3 (diazepam), 12.7 ± 2.9 (200 mg/kg), 28.8 ± 15.3 (400 mg/kg); chronic study: 131.7 ± 46.9 (control), 35.8 ± 29.7 (diazepam), 24.4 ± 10.4 (50 mg/kg), 29.7 ± 11.5 (200 mg/kg)). Neither EV nor EM altered measurements performed in the forced swim test, in contrast to the reference drug imipramine that significantly decreased immobility time after chronic treatment. These results were not due to motor alterations since no significant effects were detected in an open field. These observations suggest that EV exerts anxiolytic-like effects on a specific subset of defensive behaviors which have been associated with generalized anxiety disorder.
-For a Performative Theatre in Pirandello: a brief dialogue with Deleuze and the theatre of repetition -This article is the result of practical research in the field of performing arts, with emphasis on processes and artistic achievements in studies focused in Pirandello's scene studies. In search of a theatricality built from the intersection between theatre and performance, the dramaturgy of the Italian author is investigated from its head node: the acknowledgement by the playwright himself of the theatre's unpower of representation. In this article, we organize documents and reflections derived from a year of practical activities around the Italian author's scene and dramaturgy, revisited from a performative theatricality, in light of Deleuze's concept of the theatre of repetition. Keywords: Pirandello. Deleuze. Performative Theatre. Repetition Theatre.

O eixo e a roda, Belo Horizonte, v. 26, n. 1, p. 85-102, 2017 86 Abstract: This article proposes a reflection of the contemporary theatre in views of a healthy anachronism with the theatrical forms denominated post-dramatic (or the performative theatre) that, since the emergence of the happenings in the second half of the 50's, has been gaining particular prominence in the art's global stage; as much in relation to the theoretical studies as in praxis. While the performative theatre, influenced by the visual arts and by the performance in its most restrictive sense, searched for a language that provoked a radical exposition of the real, making the theatre a shocking event with clear anti-theatrical objectives, our national dramaturgy kept itself mostly allied to the dramatic form. With the case study of two current performances it was determined that scene play and the fable never abandoned our stages in a radical manner, from São Paulo O pão e a pedra by Companhia do Latão, and Batistério from Rio de Janeiro. In the examples mentioned, the use of an intimate narrative that opposes both to a more descriptive realism, as well as the excess of the real that contaminates the contemporary scene, causing deviations in the real at the same time the maximizes the illusion scene.
