Se estimaron la heredabilidad y las tendencias genéticas para los caracteres de peso al nacimiento, al destete y a los 16 meses de edad de bovinos criollos colombianos Romosinuano, con el fin de identificar la variabilidad genética de los tres caracteres. Se utilizaron 4032 registros provenientes de 5616 animales incluidos padres, madres y descendientes, obtenidos en el periodo comprendido entre los años 1943 al 2018 en el Centro de Investigación Turipaná. Se ajustaron seis modelos animales mixtos para cada carácter, mediante el análisis univariado. Los modelos incluyeron el grupo contemporáneo y el número de parto como efectos fijos, y como efectos aleatorios el efecto del animal, el efecto materno y el efecto del ambiente materno permanente, obteniendo a partir de las estimativas de heredabilidad de los caracteres analizados. Las tendencias genéticas fueron estimadas mediante regresión lineal simple del promedio de los valores genéticos sobre el año de nacimiento de los bovinos. Las estimaciones de heredabilidad para efectos directos fueron mayores a los valores de heredabilidad materna, mientras que la heredabilidad total para el peso al nacimiento, al destete y a los 16 meses, fueron igual a 0,17 ± 0,03, 0,09 ± 0,02 y 0,06 ± 0,03 respectivamente, lo que indica que gran parte de la variación de los pesos en las tres edades se debe a factores ambientales más no a diferencias genéticas entre los individuos analizados. Las tendencias genéticas presentaron coeficientes de regresión tanto positivos como negativos y cercanos a cero, lo que indica la conservación de la variabilidad genética en la raza Romosinuano y deja manifiesto que para mejorar los caracteres de crecimiento se deben modificar factores asociados al año y época que están fuera del alcance de este estudio y son de gran importancia al momento de hacer un programa de mejoramiento genético utilizando esta raza criolla.
El objetivo del estudio fue comparar el consumo de nutrientes, la producción y la composición diaria deleche, y la ganancia diaria de peso en vacas de doble propósito suplementadas con dietas energético-proteicasbalanceadas con base en subproductos agroindustriales no convencionales (DEP) con una dieta ofrecida por elproductor (DProd) durante el segundo y tercer tercio de la lactancia por 177 días en cuatro fincas comerciales en elCaribe colombiano. Se encontró un mayor consumo de proteína (g/día) (p = 0.009) y de extracto etéreo (p = 0.001)en vacas de la dieta DEP en comparación con la DProd en fincas de San Carlos (SC) y El Carmen de Bolívar (CB).Sin embargo, no hubo diferencias en el consumo de nutrientes digestibles totales y en la energía metabolizable(Mcal/día) entre dietas. La producción de leche fue superior en los grupos suplementados con DEP que con DProden las vacas de CB (p = 0.035; 6.43 vs. 5.88 kg/vaca/d, respectivamente) y en SC (p = 0.008; 4.4 vs 3.7 kg/vaca/d, respectivamente). Se observó una mayor ganancia diaria de peso en las vacas que recibieron la dieta DEP que laDprod en SC (0.375 kg/vaca/d; p < 0.05). En las crías mayores de 4 meses en CB, la ganancia diaria de peso fuemayor con DEP frente a la dieta del productor (0.470 vs 0.407 kg/a/d; p < 0.05). El uso de DEP permitió aumentar elconsumo de nutrientes, la producción diaria de leche y la ganancia diaria de peso de vacas y crías. El uso desubproductos de la agroindustria parece ser una alternativa para aumentar la productividad en los sistemas deproducción de doble propósito del Caribe colombiano.
El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el efecto de la suplementación con subproductos agroindustriales derivados de oleaginosas (SO) sobre la respuesta productiva de corderos mestizos. El estudio se realizó entre marzo y julio del 2018 en la unidad productiva de ovinos localizada en el municipio de Planeta Rica, Subregión del San Jorge del departamento de Córdoba, Colombia. Dieciséis corderos con peso inicial de 16,5±3,0 kg y 8-10 meses de edad, fueron aleatoriamente asignados en dos grupos (n=8) de tratamientos nutricionales; T1= dieta basal (forraje y sal mineralizada); y T2= dieta basal (forraje, sal mineralizada, y SO). En los animales se evaluó la ganancia media diaria de peso (GDP), condición corporal final (CCF), peso final (PF), consumo de nutrientes diarios (CND) digestibilidad (D), índice corporal (ICorp) y calidad de la canal; peso al sacrificio (PS), peso de canal caliente (PCC), peso de la canal fría (PCF), rendimiento de la canal caliente (RCC) y canal fría (RCF), longitud de canal (LC), perímetro de pierna (PP) e índice de compacidad (IC). Todas las variables evaluadas en animales y sus canales fueron superiores (p<0.05) en T2, los cuales obtuvieron una GDP (p=0.0006), CCF (p=0.001), PF (p=0.03), CDN (p=0.001) DN (p=0.004), ICorp (p=0.0008), incrementado en un 66,3%; 30,3%; 23,3%; 46,8% y 3,4 puntos porcentuales (pp), respectivamente. En canales, del T2 se obtuvieron valores (p<0.05) de PS, PCC, PCF, RCC, RCF, LC, PP e IC superiores en 5,9 kg; 3,34 kg; 3,2 kg; 2,44 pp; 3,07 pp; 5,7 cm; 2,5 cm y 0,035 kg/cm2, respectivamente. Los niveles de suplementación con SO incrementaron la productividad y los indicadores de calidad de canal en corderos mestizos, convirtiéndose en una opción de alimentación contundente para mejorar el desempeño productivo en ovinos de pelo del trópico bajo colombiano.
