The clinical aspects, laboratory studies and the histopathological characteristics of 12 patients with the initial diagnosis of thyroid nodule are presented. Four thyroid cancers, two thyroiditis, four thyroglossal duct cysts, one hydatidic cyst and one BCG adenitis were studied. The need of a rapid and precise diagnosis is remarked, to rule out the possibility of thyroid cancer.
