A diabetes mellitus tipo 2 representa um grave problema de saúde pública. Para melhorar o controlo metabólico da diabetes é importante perceber quais as difi culdades sentidas no processo de autogestão da doença, nomeadamente no que respeita ao cumprimento da terapêutica nutricional. Os objetivos foram: 1) Avaliar a perceção das pessoas com diabetes tipo 2 em relação ao estado geral de saúde, controlo metabólico, imagem corporal e cumprimento do plano alimentar; 2) Identifi car as principais difi culdades na adesão e cumprimento do plano alimentar. Material e Métodos: Estudo observacional analítico transversal em 82 pessoas com diabetes tipo 2. Os parâmetros antropométricos foram obtidos por medição direta e os dados bioquímicos e clínicos por consulta do processo clínico do utente. Foram desenvolvidos e aplicados questionários para a obtenção de dados sociodemográfi cos e de perceção pessoal sobre diversos aspetos: estado geral de saúde, imagem corporal, controlo metabólico, difi culdade e cumprimento do plano alimentar. A identifi cação das principais difi culdades sentidas na adesão e cumprimento do plano alimentar foi efetuada por uma listagem de 35 barreiras classifi cadas em 6 grupos. Resultados: Elevada prevalência de dislipidemia (F:81%; M:76%), risco cardiovascular associado à circunferência da cintura (F:88%; M:61%) e controlo metabólico inadequado (>68%). Cerca de 60% dos participantes apresentava obesidade e 29% pré-obesidade, no entanto, 85% classifi caram como pelo menos "aceitável" o seu estado geral de saúde, 77% o controlo metabólico e 78% o cumprimento do plano alimentar. A grande maioria (80,5%) considerou a sua imagem corporal pelo menos "aceitável". As principais difi culdades identifi cadas pertencem ao grupo das "propriedades sensoriais" e dos "fatores psicológicos". Conclusão: A perceção pessoal sobre os diversos aspetos estudados não é concordante com a avaliação dos parâmetros antropométricos, bioquímicos e clínicos, sugerindo um desajuste da perceção comparativamente à realidade. A educação alimentar e o acompanhamento por uma equipa multidisciplinar são estratégias a adotar para melhorar a adesão e cumprimento da terapêutica nutricional.
