Este artículo se propone reflexionar sobre el concepto de lo tremendo y su vínculo con ciertas prácticas artísticas contemporáneas que reflexionan la relación entre técnica y violencia, desde la materialidad de sus recursos y procedimientos. La hipótesis que se desarrollará es que lo tremendo se deja nombrar en el arte en la medida en que ciertas obras y prácticas artísticas alteran la función comunicativa del lenguaje haciendo emerger sus propios recursos técnico-materiales.
A nivel metodológico, el texto ha sido estructurado en tres secciones: la primera corresponde a una reflexión acerca de la relación entre lo tremendo y la violencia de la técnica sobre el pensar; la segunda propone pensar la relación entre violencia y lenguaje a partir de la pregunta: ¿puede lo tremendo ser representado?; y, finalmente, una tercera sección en la que se ilustrará la hipótesis enunciada por medio del análisis de tres obras de artistas latinoamericanas.
