Eletromiografia. Exercício físico.Asma. RESUMOO estudo analisou os efeitos de um programa de natação e reeducação respiratória para asmáticos sobre a atividade elétrica dos músculos esternocleidomastóideo e trapézio, assim como sobre as pressões inspiratórias e expiratórias máximas. Dez asmáticos (10.70 ± 2.45 anos de idade) participaram por quatro meses do programa, com duas sessões semanais de 60 min. Antes do início do programa e no final, a atividade elétrica dos mús-culos esternocleidomastóideo e trapézio em situação de repouso e durante uma inspiração máxima foi mensurada por meio de eletromiografia de superfície. As pressões respirató-rias máximas foram avaliadas por um manovacuômetro. Foi aplicada estatística inferencial com o SPSS 14.0, com nível de significância de 5%. Após o programa houve diminuição da ativação muscular tanto para o músculo esternocleidomastóideo em inspiração máxima (p = .01) e repouso (p = .01), assim como para o trapézio em inspiração máxima (p = .02) e repouso (p = .01). A pressão expiratória máxima apresentou diferença ao final do programa (p = .01), sem mudanças na pressão inspiratória (p = .05). O programa foi eficiente para os asmáticos, provocou diminuição da ativação na musculatura acessória da respiração, que é usada demasiadamente por asmáticos e prejudicial nas suas posturas, também houve melhora na pressão expiratória máxima, sendo exercícios ideais para asmáticos.
