O transporte rodoviário de cargas, segundo dados de 2011, movimenta 60% do volume de mercadorias do país e é fundamental para produção, distribuição de bens industriais e agrícolas. Objetivou-se neste trabalho caracterizar os trabalhadores segurados pelo INSS vinculados à atividade de transportes de carga quanto ao gênero, faixa etária, classificação internacional de doenças e também realizar um comparativo dos números de benefícios concedidos nos últimos nove anos, no intuito de promover discussões sobre o impacto dos acidentes e doenças relacionadas a esses trabalhadores no Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, descritivo de caráter quantitativo, referente aos benefícios previdenciários concedidos às atividades envolvidas na área de transportes de carga ocorridos no Brasil. Verificou-se que nos últimos nove anos o maior percentual de benefícios concedidos pelo INSS esteve no ano de 2004, com 16,8% dos casos. De acordo com o gênero, a maioria da amostra foi composta pelo gênero masculino com 96,1% dos casos. Referente à faixa etária, o índice de benefícios foi maior entre o intervalo de 40 a 44 anos com 15,3% de benefícios concedidos. Segundo o CID, os benefícios estavam distribuídos em sua maioria entre os códigos M.54 (dorsalgia) com 6,1%, M54.4 (lumbago com ciática) com 4,7% dos casos, M.54.5 (dor lombar baixa) com 7% e S62.6 (fratura de outros dedos) com 3,4%, sendo que a 45,9% foram classificados como outros. Esta pesquisa permitiu concluir que são muitos os benefícios concedidos aos motoristas de transporte de carga e que estes dados estão de acordo com os encontrados na literatura.
