Anti-corrosion coatings are commonly used in the oil and gas industry to protect the inner surface of pipelines. Most of coatings have a polymer base and can effectively prevent the negative impact of the transported fluid. Existing standards allow to evaluate the quality of coatings and their durability in the anticipated operating conditions. The evaluation of the abrasive resistance of coatings usually limited to comparative tests on a Taber abraser. This paper presents the results of hydroabrasive resistance study of coatings using nonstandard technique. Comparative test results of various polymer (FBE), thermally sprayed coating and silicate coatings are obtained. The ways of modifying test method are proposed.
Nickel-based alloys cover a wide range of oil and gas applications. Alloy EP718 is used as an analogue of alloy 718. The corrosion resistance of EP718 has been determined in severe environmental conditions of NACE level VI over 3 months (175°С, PCO2 = 3.5 MPa, PH2S = 3.5 MPa, pH 3.5, 20% NaCl). The effects of heat treatment on the corrosion rate were studied. The results indicate that the corrosion rate of EP718 in a simulated environment is less than 0.01 mm per year. Stress corrosion cracking could be observed in low quality production and incorrect heat treatment.
The problem of premature failure of bearings is a common type of failure. In most cases, the destruction occurs due to violation of operating conditions. Since the destruction of bearings is a frequent occurrence, consideration of this special case of destruction in the future will help to avoid such problems. The object of research is the screw compressor bearings destroyed during operation. To identify the causes, a collapsed bearing was examined and a bearing that did not collapse during operation.
Galvanizing is one of the most common methods of corrosion protection. For the deposition of zinc coatings used such methods as gas-thermal deposition, thermal diffusion saturation in powder, hot-dip galvanizing, cladding, and galvanic precipitating during electrolysis. The hot-dip galvanizing is the most common method, which is used in construction, automotive and other industries. Paper presents the results of research of zinc coatings used in sea conditions. The aim of the work was to determine an acceleration factor by comparing the corrosion rate in laboratory conditions with the data from field tests. Laboratory studies were carried out in a salt fog chamber. Samples were periodically removed from chamber to build the dependence of the corrosion rate on the exposure time. Field tests were carried out at the exploitation area. Result of the work is a guide that allows to predict the corrosion rates of zinc coatings using laboratory tests. The advantage of this test method is shorter time of exposure in comparison with field test.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
