On the reasonable use of total building models in the design of building structures Coming from the critical boundary conditions of the calculation with total building models, typical and prevalent constructions, where total models show advantages for the design, will be discussed. Here, spatial load‐bearing impact, the registration of unforced interactions of complex ground plans with various supports as well as the stressing of slender building structures resulting from wind loads and seismic impacts have to be mentioned. For the stated reasonable use cases the necessary boundary conditions will be discussed. The respective use cases will be presented by means of concrete building examples.
Jointless and joint reduced construction – Optimization in building constructionSince the first advices from Falkner almost 30 years ago concerning the conception of jointless high‐rising structures the findings about the physical phenomena which are causing restraint and the tools for their calculational handling have changed significantly. Based on the relevant deforming influences on a jointless high‐rising construction and with the help of engineering calculations it is illustrated that even extensive constructions can be built without joints. Using different execution examples theoretical considerations will be verified by means of realised projects.
Watertight Concrete Construction in High Quality Use Chances and Risks of Structural EngineeringComing from the basic principles of the construction of basements as a watertight concrete construction there will first of all be a presentation of its use and change during the last 20 years. It is going to be illustrated that a modern use of commercial buildings in the basements – i.e. placing of technics, storage or retail – can most often be classified as high quality. For these utilisation concepts the technical and design related boundary conditions of watertight constructions will be discussed. Besides of the separation of a watertight carcass and space creating construction there will also be an analysis of the risks of leakage for different structural elements. Concluding there will be recommendations resulting from present experiences concerning construction, quality assurance and maintenance of watertight concrete constructions in high quality use.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
