Despite the competencies acquired in study process, results of learning, diploma and provided guidance measures podologs as same as other young specialists often lack skills to create successful proffesional career in their field.At this moment in Latvia, specific proffesion, including podologs, career management skill set is not defined. For students of podology learning of mentioned skills is indirectly integrated in educational process, which is reflected by the study program aims, methods and expected results.The aim of the article is to analyse career management skills identification problems in study process of podologs and in this regard, by empirical research results on podologs career management skills in the study process.
Investigate the necessity for therapeutic foot care and the involvement of a podologist in an interdisciplinary health care team in social care institutions in Latvia.So far, no study has been conducted on the need for therapeutic pediatric care for Social Care Center (SCC) clients in Latvia; it is known that in individual SCC’s where some podologists work part-time, another podologist is invited in specific cases, or clients are taken to a podologist at a medical institution.The study was conducted in 15 Latvian Social Care Centers (SCC), surveying 750 customer feet. People who, for various reasons, are no longer capable of foot care, is a highly necessary specialist who will do it professionally and according the needs of each client, so the involvement of a podologist in the SCC team's work is essential. The foot healing provided by the podologist would help prevent diabetes, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal etc. complications caused by the disease; those clients whose age (range of motion, vision problems, etc.) no longer allows them to care for their feet.Methods: Qualitative and Quantitative Research Method. The modern world is becoming more and more complex; everyday there appears and disappears a number of different professions, the employability possibilities change and the role of career education increases because it influences the person's ability to manage successfully the personal life, to learn continuously, to acquire new skills that are necessary in the personal life and professional development. Career development at present is considered a lifelong process not a single concrete episode of choosing the career because the person has to develop creativity and critical thinking, understanding of values and culture, humanism and citizenship, decision-making and problem-solving skills, entrepreneurship and communication skills along with the knowledge, skills needed in the profession and the professional competencies. The development of career management skills becomes more significant. The aim of the study is to explore the development of career management skills in the study process as the basis of career education which is implemented as a set of integrated actions. The study employs the analysis of pedagogical, psychological and career management theories and the results of the empirical research. Empirical research data have been obtained from surveying students and graduates about factors promoting the development of podologists' career management skills and the actions integrated in the study process at the University of Latvia P. Stradins Medical College. The research findings prove that career education is a set of planned actions, which is closely connected with the development of students' professional skills and the formation of sustainable awareness, which is integrated in the study process.
Because of the affections of globalization process and because of the changes in social-political situation in world, multicultural environment in Latvia is also changing. Latvia becomes more and more attractive for foreign citizens from Europe the same as for citizens from elsewhere, that choose to settle down here permanently or only for a period of time. That is considerable challenge for education and healthcare. Workers in field of medicine, and podologs as well, must guide their professional carreer development in mutable multicultural environment. That is why needs of joung specialists are changing too-with knowledge, skills and competencies necessary in proffession, specialists must develop creativity and critical thinking, insight of values and culture, humanism and citizenship, decision-making and problem- solving skills as well as entrepreneurial abilities and communication skills. In process of prepearing new podologs for work in multicultural environment more important becomes development of those personal attributes set, that are made of tact and diplomacy, as well as development of basic skill set, that includes learning skill and skill to make compromises, but career management skill set development is characterized by ability to collaborate, ability to notice changes in working environment and ability to give support. The goal of this article is to describe, theoreticaly and empyricaly, the development of necessary carreer management skills for work in multicultural environment to new podologs.
