Dane zbierane przez spisujących (początkowo tylko liczbowo obejmujące gospodarstwa domowe) stopniowo były uszczegółowiane. Poddając je kompleksowej analizie, możemy prześledzić rozwój poszczególnych społeczności, badać dane genealogiczne rodzin oraz ruch ludności. Lustracje i spisy rewizyjne stanowią niezwykle cenne źródło do prowadzonych badań genealogicznych, antroponimicznych i demograficznych społeczności karaimskiej.

W latach 1934–1939 zabiegi poczynione przez Michała (Musę) Kowszanły, Siemiona Duwana oraz Seraję Szapszała dały podstawę przyjęcia przez nazistowskie Niemcy przepisów, na mocy których, Karaimi byli uznani za „aryjczyków” i nie podlegali ograniczeniom wprowadzonym przez norymberskie ustawy rasowe.
