Zusammenfassung. In einer Fragebogenstudie an 117 Fußballspielern aus 14 Fußballvereinen wurden individuelle Unterschiede in der Fairness im Fußball untersucht und die Hypothese getestet, dass Fairness im Fußball sowohl auf intuitiver als auch auf kontrollierter Ebene durch das Streben nach Gerechtigkeit (Gerechtigkeitsmotiv) erklärt werden kann. Hierbei wurde zwischen der Bereitschaft zu taktischen Regelverstößen (zu formeller Unfairness) sowie zu informeller Fairness unterschieden. Beide Dispositionen konnten durch das Gerechtigkeitsmotiv sowie durch Gerechtigkeitserfahrungen mit Schiedsrichtern erklärt werden und das Gerechtigkeitsmotiv hing positiv mit Gerechtigkeitskognitionen bezüglich Schiedsrichtern, Trainern und Mannschaftskameraden zusammen. Regelverstöße wurden jedoch ausschließlich durch Gerechtigkeitserfahrungen mit Schiedsrichtern aufgeklärt. Leistungsmotiv und Tabellenposition sowie Gerechtigkeitserfahrungen mit Trainer und Mannschaftskameraden konnten wenig zur Erklärung beitragen. Die Ergebnisse werden vor dem Hintergrund der Gerechtigkeitsmotivtheorie und Überlegungen zur Bedeutung des Exklusionsempfindens diskutiert.
