Light and color are ubiquitous environmental factors which have an influence on the human being. Hence, light and color issues have to be considered especially significant in human-computer interaction (HCI) and fundamental in affective computing. Affective computing is an interdisciplinary research field which aims to integrate issues dealing with emotions and computers. As a consequence, it seems important to provide an updated review on the significance of light and color in affective computing. With this purpose, the relationship between HCI/affective computing and the emotions affected by light and color are introduced in first place. So far, there is a considerable number of studies and experiments that offer empirical results on the topic. In addition, the color models generally used in affective computing are briefly described. The review on the usage of color and light in affective computing includes a detailed study of the characteristics of methods and the most recent research trends. The paper is complemented with the study of the importance of light and color from demographic, gender and cultural perspectives.
The article is dedicated to the problem of decision making in complex systems. Application of a novel interdisciplinary approach, which widely use intelligent agents is offered. The principal ideas of the novel approach are embodied into the DeciMaS framework, that offers a logical set of stages oriented to creation of decision support systems for complex problem management. The components of the DeciMaS framework and the way in which they are organized are introduced. Design and implementation of the system are discussed. The article demonstrates how the initial information is transformed into knowledge. Impact assessment upon human health evaluation is the case study, which is resolved by DeciMas framework. It includes creation of the meta-ontology. In addition, a multi-agent architecture for a decision support system is introduced. The sequence of the steps for the DeciMaS framework design with Prometheus Development Kit and its implementation with JACK Development Environment are presented as well. Finally, data and experiment results of data modeling, simulation, impact assessment, and decision generation are discussed.
Abstract. This paper introduces a study on the relationship between emotion regulation and color preference. In the described pilot study, participants are asked to label uniform color images by using opposite meaningful words belonging to four semantic scales, namely "Tension" (ranging from Relax to Stress), "Temperature" (Coldness to Warmness), "Amusement" (Boredom to Fun) and "Attractiveness" (Pleasantness to Unpleasantness). Simultaneously, the participants have to indicate if they feel certain emotions while observing each colored image, as well as to rate the intensity of the feeling. The labeled emotions are "Joy", "Happiness", and "Sadness". The results demonstrate that people generally perceive color emotions for one-colored images in similar ways, though showing some variations for males and females. Several conclusions about the relations between color and emotions are presented.
