This sequential exploratory mixed methods research aimed to describe which among the demographics, school profile, teacher factor, student factor, learning resources and classroom management, management and governance, family background and parental involvement significantly influenced and predicted the performance of the secondary schools in Science, Mathematics and English in Davao del Sur Division and thereafter to develop empirical models. The instrument used was developed through the responses of the KII informants, concepts of Creswell, and factor analyses. Using complete enumeration, the researcher selected 68 teachers and principals as respondents. Findings revealed that educational attainment, school based management, field of specialization significantly predicted competition; school type, teachers’ attitude and motivation, class size were linked with NAT results in Science; school type, length of service, teachers’ attitude and motivation, principal’s projects and programs, and school size were associated with NAT results in Mathematics; school type, teachers’ attitude and motivation, and classroom management positively correlated with NAT results in English; and school type, teacher’s attitude and motivation, family background and parental involvement, and length of service significantly linked with NAT results in Science, Mathematics and English. The empirical models adopted were: (1) YCompetition = -5.028 + 2.472*Educational Attainment + 1.514*School Based Management – 1.531*Field of Specialization, (2) YNATScience = 7.814 – 32.872*School Type + 13.007*Teacher’s Attitude and Motivation + 14.318*Class Size, (3) YNATMathematics = 74.026 – 28.828*School Type + 5.381* Length of Service + 9.523* Teacher’s Attitude and Motivation – 6.782* Principal’s Projects and Programs – 4.935* School Size, (4) YNATEnglish = 52.674 – 18.505* School Type + 11.362* Teacher’s Attitude and Motivation – 6.518* Classroom Management, and (5) YNATAverage = 60.645 – 26.052*School Type + 8.362* Teacher’s Attitude and Motivation – 4.902* Family Background and Parental Involvement + 4.158* Length of Service.
Handling student-athletes has been a challenging yet rewarding journey for educational leaders. This phenomenological inquiry study aims to explore the experiences of educational leaders in handling student-athletes. This study conducted an In-depth Interview of ten (10) school heads or principals to share their experiences regarding setbacks, coping strategies, and insights on handling student-athletes. The findings reveal that educational leaders need more sports equipment and practice facilities, school funds, and coaches’ skills training, and there are student athletes’ low academic performance and misbehavior. However, this study presents that the abovementioned setbacks can be addressed by internal fund allocation, resource generation, coaches’ skills development programs, and student athletes’ development programs. This study also discloses that educational leaders perceive that well-funded sports program produces better results. They also believe stakeholders play an essential role in sustaining their financial performance. More than that, educational leaders realize that competent coaches significantly bring out winnable student-athletes. They likewise point out that student-athletes must value academics as they value sports. The study’s findings serve as a basis for developing a quality management system for sports programs that may include plans, programs, projects, activities, and policies that can improve the management of sports programs. Paper presentation and publication of this paper may add to the related studies and literature on sports management.
Quality teaching is influenced by varied dimensions. This predictive research extrapolates which predictors affect quality teaching. Employing stratified simple random sampling, 168 out of 290 elementary school teachers answered the validated and tried out survey questionnaire via an online platform. Findings reveal that role overload and career development opportunity significantly influence quality teaching. Class size, length of service, and personal commitment do not significantly influence quality teaching. The model generated is Quality Teaching = 3.562 + 0.325*Role Overload + 0.245*Career Development Opportunity. The management may support elementary school teachers to grab career development opportunity as these contribute to their quality teaching. Teachers who manifest high role overload may be prioritized to be given career development opportunity as a reward for their hard work.
The purpose of this sequential explanatory research study is to predict the psychographics and demographics that are associated with performance among faculty in Dubai Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and thereafter to develop a regression model. Using the purposive sampling, twenty faculty members among Dubai HEIs were used to answer the validated and tried-out interview guide which results were coded, interpreted, and clustered into themes. The research findings reveal that professional qualification, commitment, job satisfaction, motivation, personal differences, and perceived fairness in management emerged as psychographics that influence faculty performance. The psychographics and the demographics were tested whether these predict faculty performance. Using stratified sampling, not lesser than one hundred forty-nine (149) faculty members were selected to answer the validated and tried questionnaire. Using MANCOVA, the figures disclose that the educational level, professional qualification, commitment, job satisfaction, motivation, and perceived fairness in management are predictors of faculty performance. The regression model of the study is Faculty Performance = 32.076 + 12.977 Educational Level + 2.070 Professional Qualification + .967 Commitment – 10.388 Job Satisfaction + 6.926 Motivation – 1.302 Perceived Fairness in Management. The findings of this study would contribute to the identification of criteria in the hiring of faculty in Dubai HEIs.
The study evaluated the availability of the financial transactions and procurement reports in the government portal of all the 11 Local Government Units (LGUs) under the Province of Davao del Norte which specifically determined the extent of its implementation of e-Governance particularly in implementing the Full Disclosure Policy (FDP) as a practice of transparency. In particular, the assessment was done to verify if the following reports were uploaded in the portal: (a) Budget Reports; (b) Procurement Reports; (c) Special Purpose Fund Reports. Fourteen (14) relevant reports were queried at the portal as accessed at http://fdps.blgs.gov.ph/ from year 2012 to 2013. Results were initially obtained through an assessment done by the researchers in checking into the availability of the inquired reports at the portal. Preliminary findings were triangulated as a group of MPA students verified the initial results. Quantitative tools such as frequency counts, means and percentages were employed to know the available reports. Findings showed that there was an increase of compliance percentage for the LGUs of Asuncion, New Corella, San Isidro and Sto. Tomas while there was a noticeably slight decrease of compliance for the rest of the LGUs. Moreover, Budget Reports were the most complied while Procurement Reports were the least complied. The study concludes that while all LGUs have utilized the portal through submission of the reports, other factors affecting prompt and complete compliance and distance and income classification should be looked into. It is suggested in the study that each LGU should maximize the adoption and utilization of the government portal as a medium in promoting transparency and accountability as a practice of good governance.
