ABSTRACTThis work was carried with the objective to evaluate the cutting length and application of IBA in rooting of red pitaya cutting. The pitaya cutting were collected of stock plant and standardized with 15.0 and 25.0 cm of length and half of the amount of the cuttings received treatment with 3000 mg L -1 of IBA for twenty seconds. Later the cuttings were placed in stonemason containing a soil mixture + corral manure (3:1 v/v) as substrate. After 60 days, the rooting and survival percentage and number of roots emitted by cutting were evaluated. As conclusion, were observed that IBA increased the rooting percentage and promoted the improvement of the quality of roots of red pitaya cuttings.
ABSTRACTThe aim of this work was to verify the influence of shading, lesion in cutting bases and application of Indolbutyric acid (IBA) in the rooting of star fruit hardwood cuttings. The cuttings were padronized with three buds, two leaves, and 12 cm of length. The experimental design was completely randomized, with the factorial scheme 3 x 4, where the studied factors were the cutting types (shaded hardwood, hardwood with lesion on the base, and hardwood, considered the control) and different concentration of IBA (0; 3,000; 6,000, and 9,000 mg L -1 ). The shading started 45 days before removing the cuttings from the branch, wrapping up the base of the future cuttings with black plastic tape. The incision on the base of the cuttings was performed at the moment they were removed from the branch, through two cuts on the base. The cuttings were maintained in a chamber under intermittent mist and after 75 days, the rooting percentage, survival percentage, callus formation percentage and length roots per cuttings were evaluated. It was concluded that hardwood cuttings without the treatments of shading and lesion on the base and application of IBA showed the best results of rooting.
ABSTRACTThe aim of the present research was to verify the influence of different substrates in seedling production of star fruit tree rootstocks. Seeds were taken from ripe fruits of sweet star fruit, washed in tap water and sowed in polystyrene trays (72 cells with volume capacity of 120 cm 3 /cell), containing the following substrates: vermiculite, Plantmax ® , Rendmax ® , soil, sand, and sand + soil mixture (1:1, 2:1 and 1:2 v/v). After that, the trays were placed inside a lath house covered by 50 % brightness shade, and manually watered daily. After 130 days of sowing, the following biometric data were collected: percentage of live plants, length of sprouts and roots, and number of leaves. It was concluded that the mixture soil + sand (1:1 v/v) was most efficient in seed germination and early formation of star fruit rootstocks.
EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF STAR FRUIT SCION BY GRAFTING AND CUTTINGSABSTRACT -In the present fruit culture, the search for cropping methods for reduction of production time is important. In this sense, the use of different methods of propagation is essential. To compare those two methods, this study was developed with the objective of evaluate the effect of different methods of propagation and growth seasons on the early development of star fruit scion. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a subdivided parcel scheme, with seven replicates and seven plants each plot. The plots were constituted of grafting and cutting scions and the collection time (autumn, spring, summer and winter) the sub portion, being appraised every four months, the height of the plants and the diameter of the stem. It was concluded that the grafted scions presented larger growth rates in height, and consequently, higher vigor, however, the scion from cuttings presents more precocious production of fruits.
