O despejo de óleo de fritura no meio ambiente tem provocado impactos ambientais significativos. Em decorrência deste fato, várias propostas têm surgido no intuito de se reutilizar este óleo e minimizar sua ação poluente. Uma das formas de aproveitamento deste óleo de fritura é sua saponificação para a produção de sabão doméstico em escala artesanal, sendo objeto de grande interesse para algumas comunidades, instituições e organizações que não só tem retirado este poluente do meio ambiente, como também tem permitido a geração alternativa de renda. Este trabalho teve como objetivo a avaliação da qualidade de diferentes lotes de sabão produzido com óleo residual, empregando-se testes para avaliação das características sensoriais, peso-médio, estabilidade preliminar, formação de espuma, formação de rachadura, perda de massa e amolecimento e perda de peso durante a estocagem. Foram encontradas variações destas propriedades avaliadas, que podem ser devido à diversidade da origem, do tipo, das condições de transporte, de armazenamento e ainda do grau de rancificação do óleo usado na produção dos sabões. Este estudo teve ainda a intenção de se fornecer dados que possam contribuir com outras soluções viáveis na reutilização deste tipo de contaminante ambiental.
