L’objectif de cette étude est d’analyser la mesure, utilisée par Milgram puis Blass, de répartition de responsablité entre expérimentateur, enseignant et élève, chez des observateurs de la situation de soumission à l’autorité de Milgram. Dans l’étude 1, 90 participants regardent une séquence du film de Milgram et répartissent 100 % de responsabilités en fonction de deux variables : l’effet (l’enseignant obéit versus désobéit) et le statut de l’expérimentateur (Milgram versus un employé versus un sujet naïf). En situation d’obéissance on observe une délégation de responsabilité seulement vers Milgram et en situation de désobéissance on l’observe seulement lorsque l’expérimentateur n’est pas Milgram. Les questions ouvertes de l’étude 1, ainsi que les 12 entretiens de l’étude 2 montrent que la délégation de responsabilité ne se produit qu’avec une autorité charismatique, mais qu’il est peu pertinent de comparer les répartitions de responsabilité d’une situation d’obéissance et de désobéissance : la répartition est très complexe car de nombreux facteurs interviennent et la question n’a pas le même sens dans les deux situations.
