1. Dans le travail présent on a analysé les résultats publiés et non publiés des études potentiométriques, basées sur l’application d’électrodes à poudre et concernant diverses préparations de charbon activé et non activé. On a analysé aussi la détermination potentiométrique des isothermes d’adsorption pour quelques préparations de charbon. On a constaté une grande sensibilité de la méthode des électrodes à poudre qui permet de distinguer les différentes préparations de charbon ainsi que de définir la concentration superficielle de l’élément adsorbé. On a présenté le mécanisme probable du cours des processus dans l’électrode à poudre, mécanisme qui explique les faits expérimentaux observés du changement de potentiel de l’électrode à poudre par rapport à la concentration et l’écoulement du temps. On a pris ici pour base les travaux de Frumkin et de ses collaborateurs, admettant avec eux que dans l’atmosphère sans oxygène le charbon acquiert un potentiel négatif par rapport à la solution aqueuse, tandis qu’en présence de l’oxygène il acquiert un potentiel positif. Nos considérations concernaient le charbon dispersé dans une solution à 0,5 mol par litre de chlorure de potassium et le charbon dispersé avec une couche adsorptive d’ammoniac ou d’acide acétique dans une solution analogue. Nous avons expliqué le comportement différent dans l’électrode à poudre du charbon qui avait une couche adsorptive d’ammoniac, après l’adsorption à partir d’une solution aqueuse ammoniacale par rapport au charbon qui adsorbait l’ammoniac d’une phase gazeuse à un élément.
