En 1968, Mohamed Abbazi, jeune Amazigh marocain fraîchement diplômé de UCLA, se voit refuser par le Centre cinématographique marocain l’autorisation de tourner dans le centre-ville de Casablanca un documentaire sur des femmes de ménage. Le jeune audacieux tourne « tout de même » ce film, mais n’en achèvera jamais le montage. Ces images n’en sont pas moins des documents uniques et précieux sur la vie quotidienne féminine d’un Casablanca récemment décolonisé, et témoignent d’un geste cinéaste singulier dans le Maroc des Années de plomb. Comment un tel tournage illégal a-t-il été rendu possible ? En confrontant rushes, prémontages, photographies du tournage et témoignages, cet article reconstitue les étapes, les stratégies et le protocole suivis par Abbazi pour filmer dans la clandestinité.
