The BRVT and logMAR LEC are reliable visual acuity measurement tools. Moreover, the BRVT is potentially effective in quantifying visual acuity of the more severe visually impaired patients.
The Low Vision Clinic (L.V.C) specializing in the treatment of low vision patients was established in 1985 at the National Rehabilitation Center for The Disabled. As a part of the services of the L .V. C., orthoptists conduct evaluation of the visual functions , selection of optical aids, and training in their use. In this paper we describe the procedures we use to select near vision optical aids , including an original near vision test chart that we developed. The most important information source for our patients are newspapers . For this reason we developed a near vision test chart containing various magnification levels of newspaper characters to determine the necessary power of magnification. In conjunction with the lest chart we use a patient questionnaire to determine the necessary and appropriate optical aid necessary for the patient to be able to read. The use of our near vision test chart and patient questionnaire has simplified procedures for Prescribing near vision optical aids. Many of our patients have regained the ability to read and write by using appropriate optical aids.
People with low vision require visual aids to read and write , especially those who want to return to their previous vocations.Employers are concerned with whether low vision employees can work efficiently and smoothly .We measured the reading rate of normal vision persons to compare with our low vision group data.We measured the reading rate of 30 normal vision persons . They were categorised by age into 3 groups: those between 20 to 30 years (group A) , those between 40 to 50 years (group B) , and those over 60 years of age (group C).To check the reading rate of normal vision persons we collected data using four different letter sizes: 8-point, 10-point, 12-point and 22-point .
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
