Natural fibre-based materials (flax and hemp) are a reality since several years. A recent study conducted by FranceAgriMer (Thonier et Bono, 2015) shows that their development became a reality, especially in the field of construction (insulation, board, concrete), transportation (thermoplastic, composite) and more recently sports, leisure & luxury. These developments enable to highlight the specific properties of flax and hemp fibres in terms of mechanical performances, lightweight, damping vibrations, thermal and phonic insulation, water sorption and desorption or carbon footprint. Their further deployment relies on the ability of our industries to address the main technological issues still at work, namely: (1) enhance mechanical performances through fractionation; (2) contribute new features to natural fibres; (3) enhance their processing into semifinished products and materials; (4) ensure performances reproducibility. It also relies on the ability of all the actors of this sector to structure recognized supply chains, thus allowing to bring on the market a complete range of solutions (fibres, powder, aggregates, compounds, nonwovens, rovings, weaved fabrics. . . ). These solutions must be tailored to customers specifications, at a reasonable price for everyo...
