Notre recherche vise à démontrer comment les stéréotypes de genre, présents au sein de nos sociétés, peuvent par le biais de la lecture d’un roman, impacter la construction de l’identité sexuée de la femme au regard de différentes générations. Pour ce faire, 17 femmes âgées de 20 à 71 ans – issues d’un même milieu socioculturel – ont participé à la lecture du roman « Chanson douce » (Slimani, 2016). À l’issue de cette lecture, un entretien semi-directif a été réalisé afin de connaître les perceptions des stéréotypes présents dans l’ouvrage et l’impact de ceux-ci sur la construction de l’identité sexuée. Une analyse thématique, selon Braun et Clarke (2006), a permis d’observer la présence de stéréotypes dans l’ouvrage choisi, en termes de description et des rôles attribués aux personnages. Les participantes ont évoqué des questionnements personnels quant à leur place dans la société. Nous n’avons pas constaté d’effet intergénérationnel – les différences observées étant davantage liées à la personne et à son parcours de vie plutôt qu’à son âge. En conclusion, nos résultats mettent en évidence un lien entre la construction de l’identité de la femme et les stéréotypes sociétaux par le biais de vecteurs de socialisation tels que les romans.
