Dans un contexte d’une réduction chronique des subventions publiques au détriment des institutions culturelles et notamment muséales, le mécénat apparaît comme une ressource permettant de maintenir un équilibre budgétaire. Le numérique a permis l’apparition de nouveaux outils de mécénat individuel. Grâce à un questionnaire en ligne et une série d’entretiens, nous réalisons le recensement complet de ces outils et un état des lieux des pratiques, en ligne et hors ligne. Nous remarquons un désintérêt progressif des musées pour les souscriptions traditionnelles au profit des plateformes de crowdfunding et d’autres méthodes nouvelles. Si ce déplacement des pratiques ne modifie pas les capacités financières des musées, il permettrait en revanche, selon eux, de mobiliser des contributeurs plus jeunes ou plus lointains.
