En este artículo se revisan las principales acciones impulsadas desde 1934 por el Departamento Nacional del Trabajo en relación al trabajo a domicilio, que antecedieron a la sanción de una nueva legislación en 1941. A partir del análisis de fuentes oficiales, se afirma que la agencia estatal desempeñó un rol activo frente a la problemática del trabajo a domicilio dentro de su esfera de competencia, en un sector laboral altamente feminizado. A su vez, este accionar promovió el desarrollo de negociaciones colectivas, en un contexto de creciente visibilidad y movilización de las costureras a domicilio.
El conjunto de investigaciones que integran La sociedad del trabajo, apuntan al análisis del proceso de constitución, evolución y trans- formación de las agencias estatales relacionadas con el mundo del trabajo en la Argentina, en la primera mitad del siglo XX, tanto desde una perspectiva nacional como provincial. El libro se concentra en la institución más importante en este ámbito: el Departamento Nacional del Trabajo (DNT) creado en 1907, convertido en Secretaría de Trabajo y Previsión (STyP) en 1943, y posteriormente en Ministerio de Trabajo hacia 1949, y llega con el análisis hasta 1955, fecha que coincide con el derrocamiento del segundo gobierno peronista. Asimismo, también se ocupa de rastrear diferentes experiencias de este proceso a nivel provincial, aportando con esta mirada nuevas preocupaciones desde el punto de vista historiográfico, que contribuyen a complejizar las investigaciones más centradas en la ciudad de Buenos Aires.
