Es ist eine überaus seltsame Tatsache, daß es bisher in der Pirandello-Sekundärliteratur keine Arbeit über sein nahes Verhältnis zum Nouveau Roman gibt, wenngleich sein 100. Geburtstag 1967 seinen Namen wieder mobilisierte und gerade in den fünfziger Jahren seine Werke 1 in Frankreich neu verlegt wurden, also kurz bevor der Nouveau Roman ins breite Gespräch der Öffentlichkeit geriet.Während die Beziehung von Pirandellos Theaterneuerungen zu Dramen von Anouilh, lonesco, Genet und Beckett kürzlich untersucht wurde 2 , ist der Roman nicht in den Blickpunkt gekommen. Auch die Nouveaux Romanciers selbst reflektierten, mit Ausnahme von Samuel Beckett, nicht über ihren Vorgänger. Nur ein kurzer Aufsatz existiert von Pietro Ferrua über Pirandellos Gedanken zum Film und ihre Realisierung durch die Filme Alain Robbe-Grillets 3 . Wenn zwischen Pirandellos Gedanken und Robbe-Grillets Ausführungen so eklatante Verbindungen bestehen, so wäre es naheliegend, weitere zu suchen. Was dies vermutlich bislang verhindert hat, war die tiefe Diskrepanz zwischen der Schreibtechnik der Nouveaux Romanciers und der Pirandellos. Aber dies sollte die Frage nicht beiseite schieben, inwiefern Pirandello mit seinen zentralen Themen, der Frage nach Wirklichkeit und Interpretation, ein ganz entscheidender Anstoß für Nouveaux Romanciers hätte sein können und müssen, die eben diese Themen auch zu zentralen ihres Schreibens erhoben und nicht von ungefähr eine "Ecole du refus" und "Ecole du regard" 4 genannt wurden. Wenn Nathalie Sarraute ihren berühmten Essay-Band UEre du soup$on (1956) nannte, so wäre zu untersuchen, was Pirandello mit den Begriffen "refus", "regard" und "soup^on" zu tun hat und ob er nicht ein wichtiger, ja zentraler Vorgänger jener bisher letzten avantgardistischen Bewegung in Frankreich war.Nathalie Sarraute selbst nennt Pirandello nicht; der Titel ihres Buches verweist auf Stendhal, der in den Souvenirs d'egotisme schrieb 5 : Le genie poetique 1 Die Pirandello-Zitate sind den Opere dt Luigi Pirandello>, Milano 3 1986, entnommen.
