Capsicum chinense. For satisfactory crop development, suitable irrigation management is necessary. Based on the importance of this crop, the aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of irrigation depths on the production components of two species of pepper of the genus Capsicum. The experiment was carried out under field conditions on a farm of CEUNES/ UFES in São Mateus, in the State of Espirito Santo, Brazil (ES). The experimental design was completely randomised into blocks of split lots, having five lots, two sub-lots and four replications. The lots comprised the irrigation depths of 40%, 70%, 100%, 130% and 160% of the Penman Monteith reference evapotranspiration (ETo) (FAO 56). In the sub-lots, two species of pepper were evaluated (the Lady's Finger variety of Capsicum baccatum, and the Yellow Lantern variety of Capsicum chinense) employing drip irrigation. Under evaluation were productivity, average weight, average diameter and fruit length. Irrigation depth affected productivity and average fruit weight only. For the soil and climate conditions of São Mateus, ES, the production components of the Yellow Lantern pepper were higher than those of the Lady's Finger.
Pineapple is a nutritionally demanding crop, with emphasis on potassium and nitrogen nutrients. In this context, the aim of this paper was to study the effect of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) fertigation frequencies on the physical-chemical fruit characteristics of ‘Pérola’ pineapple crop. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, with 18 treatments and 4 replications. It was used a factorial scheme (4 × 4) + 1 + 1, which represents: four N fertigation frequencies applied by surface drip irrigation (4, 7, 27 and 54 times throughout the crop cycle); four K fertigation frequencies (4, 9, 35 and 70 times); one additional treatment (irrigated, but without fertigation); and one control (non irrigated and non fertigated). The fruit characteristics analyzed were: fruit mass with crown, yield, soluble solids, pH, titratable acidity and SS/TA ratio. The N fertigation frequencies had no effect on variables evaluated, however, the K frequencies had a significant influence on fruit mass with crown, yield and pH. The results showed that the effect of K frequencies applied through fertigation on pineapple yield and fruit physical-chemical quality was more pronounced in comparison to the effect of N applications. Monthly potassium fertigations, followed by four applications throughout the crop cycle, provided the greatest increase in fruit quality, allowing higher values of fruit mass, yield and pH.
<p>Velum&#174; is a novel contact nematicide with Fluopyram (FL) as active ingredient. Knowledge on its adsorption and transport characteristics is essential for both agricultural and environmental considerations. The main objective of this study was to quantify the transport characteristics of FL in a sandy soil from a non-cultivated area in Arava region, Southern Israel, with a special focus on the behavior in soil after drip application. In this regard, soil column transport experiments under saturated water flow conditions were conducted. In addition to FL, the transport experiments were performed with a bromide tracer. Four factors were examined: (i) pulse concentration, (ii) water flux (ii) pulse size and (iv) interrupted flow. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms were measured by batch experiments. The established breakthrough curves (BTCs) were analyzed with the convection&#8211;dispersion equation (CDE) in its chemical equilibrium and non-equilibrium forms. In addition, the validity of a two-site kinetics model was evaluated. All models were examined with and without a term, assuming irreversible sorption. The bromide BTCs were adequately fitted by analytical solutions of the equilibrium CDE using the CXTFIT code, suggesting that physical equilibrium is prevailing. The FL BTCs were fitted with two-site sorption and two kinetic sites models using HYDRUS-1D code. The experimental mass balance analysis demonstrated that the bromide mass was fully recovered, while only part of total FL applied was recovered, in particular, at low flow rate. The comparison between non-interrupted and interrupted water flow demonstrated that at a given flow rate, during the pulse input, the two BTCs are identical. However, following the flow interruption (60 hours), when the flow resumed, a sharp decrease could be observed in FL concentration. Thereafter, the two BTCs are re-converged, exhibiting similar desorption behavior. Possible explanations for FL transport characteristics seems to be low kinetics desorption and/or irreversible adsorption. Additional quantitative insights from the numerical analysis will be presented and discussed based on the goodness of fit and optimized parameters of each model. &#160;&#160;</p>
