Com o aumento exponencial da população mundial, aumentou-se também a geração de resíduos provenientes da alimentação humana. Estima-se que no Brasil são produzidos, por ano, cerca de 3 bilhões de litros de óleo vegetal destinados à alimentação, sendo que, apenas aproximadamente 1% desse valor é descartado corretamente após o uso, enquanto todo o resto é lançado sem um devido tratamento na natureza. O óleo residual proveniente do processo de fritura acarreta diversos problemas ao meio ambiente quando descartado incorretamente, causando a poluição dos corpos hídricos e prejudicando seus ecossistemas. Nessa perspectiva, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar rotas alternativas para a reutilização do óleo residual de fritura (ORF), bem como avaliar a aplicabilidade desse resíduo como insumo para geração de novos produtos, visando a contribuir para a mitigação dos impactos ambientais causados pelo descarte inadequado. Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica integrativa abrangendo trabalhos que abordavam a reutilização do óleo residual de fritura, totalizando 49 estudos elencados, entre os anos de 2006 a 2021, indexados nas bases de dados Google Scholar, Scielo e Science Direct. Dentre os quais, 26 foram selecionados para a apresentação dos resultados durante a discussão, destacando-se os estudos que apresentavam a aplicabilidade do óleo residual de fritura na produção de biodiesel, sabão, vela artesanal, ceras e graxas, biolubrificantes, massa de vidraceiro, resinas e na ração animal. Os resultados apresentados neste artigo evidenciaram que a reutilização do ORF como insumo para geração de novos produtos é um caminho viável para a diminuição dos impactos ambientais causados pelo seu descarte inadequado, além de ser uma alternativa para agregar valor a este resíduo, fazendo-se necessário uma maior atenção à logística da coleta, como também um maior estudo sobre sua aplicabilidade em algumas rotas, como na produção de ceras e graxas.
O azul de metileno se encontra na classe dos corantes reativos, que são os mais utilizados em larga escala industrial, e que mais sofrem descarte em cursos d’água. Esse descarte indireto de corantes pode ocasionar a desestruturação de cadeias alimentares, desestabilizando mono e policulturas devido a liberação de compostos que antes não existiam na região. Algumas alterações como pH e oxigênio dissolvido podem ainda favorecer o crescimento de bactérias indesejadas. Com o intuito de minimizar o impacto ambiental ocasionado por esse descarte, este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar o equilíbrio de adsorção e a eficiência adsortiva de resíduos industriais de origem lignocelulósica como bagaço de cana de açúcar e fibra de coco. As análises foram realizadas in natura, com tratamento ácido (HCl 0,5M) e com tratamento básico (NaOH 0,1M) para ambos os biossorventes em três concentrações de azul de metileno (5 mg/L, 10 mg/L e 15 mg/L) e em cinco temperaturas distintas (25°C, 35°C,45°C, 55°C e 65°C). Além disso, também foram analisados o pH e o oxigênio dissolvido dos fluidos após passagem pela torre de adsorção e realizou-se o estudo topográfico das fibras através da microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Os resultados obtidos revelaram uma melhora na eficiência de adsorção quando utilizado o tratamento básico, para ambos os biossorventes, sendo a cana de açúcar com mínimo de 69,80% e máxima de 94,05% de eficiência e a fibra de coco com mínimo de 52,63% e máximo de 57,98% de eficiência. Os dados de equilíbrio possuíram um melhor ajuste ao modelo de Freundlich. O potencial hidrogeniônico do fluido, após a coleta nos dois recheios analisados, manteve-se preferencialmente ácido e o oxigênio dissolvido obteve valores médios inferiores aos encontrados de alguns rios amazônicos avaliados na época da cheia.
No Brasil, cerca de 200 milhões de litros de óleo advindos do processo de fritura (ORF) são descartados incorretamente todos os anos na natureza, principalmente nos corpos hídricos próximos às cidades, ocasionando problemas de poluição nesses ecossistemas. Tal óleo pode ser aplicado na produção de biodiesel, atuando como matéria-prima, o que não só agrega valor a este resíduo, como também diminui o custo de produção do biocombustível. Todavia, o óleo quando passa pelo processo de fritura é submetido a diversos fatores que propiciam a formação de ácidos graxos livres (AGL), responsáveis por aumentar a acidez do óleo residual. Uma acidez elevada, por sua vez, prejudica a síntese de biodiesel, fazendo com que não seja possível produzir o biocombustível em apenas uma etapa reacional de transesterificação alcalina, o que encarece o processo. A realização de um pré-tratamento do óleo residual via adsorção se apresenta como uma alternativa economicamente viável para a resolução desse problema. Diante disso, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar diversos materiais que podem ser utilizados como material adsorvente na redução do índice de acidez do óleo residual de fritura, favorecendo a produção de biodiesel em apenas uma etapa reacional. Para tal, foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica integrativa apresentando os principais resultados encontrados na literatura acerca da redução do índice de acidez dos ORF via adsorção. Foram utilizados, ao total, 27 trabalhos, publicados entre os anos de 2007 a 2021, indexados nas bases de dados Google Scholar, Scielo e Science Direct. Dos quais, 21 estudos foram selecionados para a apresentação dos resultados durante a discussão do artigo, destacando-se os trabalhos que apresentavam a utilização de materiais adsorventes economicamente viáveis na redução do índice de acidez de ORF, tais como a sílica, argila, bagaço de cana de açúcar, casca de banana verde, sabugo de milho e mesocarpo do coco. Como resultados, foi evidenciado que a redução da acidez do óleo residual através da adsorção foi eficiente em todos os processos utilizando os materiais supracitados, sendo que, para alguns materiais o índice de acidez não atingiu o mínimo exigido para que o óleo pudesse ser aplicado na produção de biodiesel, sendo necessário que o tratamento ocorresse em mais de uma etapa. E dentre os materiais mais acessíveis economicamente, destacaram–se os lignocelulósicos.
