Resumo Introdução A sífilis gestacional é uma doença de transmissão vertical, da mãe para o feto, que se não tratada, pode resultar em inúmeros desfechos negativos para a saúde materna e infantil. Objetivo Avaliar as barreiras na assistência pré-natal para o controle da transmissão vertical da sífilis em gestantes segundo o perfil sociodemográfico, reprodutivo e assistencial em uma metrópole do Nordeste brasileiro. Método Estudo descritivo, conduzido a partir de banco de dados de um estudo caso-controle para sífilis gestacional em maternidades públicas no Nordeste do Brasil, entre 2013 e 2014. As informações do acompanhamento e tratamento foram obtidas pelos registros do cartão do pré-natal e entrevistas. O diagnóstico de sífilis considerou os registros do cartão, anotações em prontuário e resultados do Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL). Resultados Foram incluídas 1.206 mulheres, 91,7% realizaram pré-natal e se declararam, em maior proporção, como casadas, menor número de filhos e maior escolaridade. O resultado do VDRL do pré-natal foi anotado em 23,9%. Entre as 838 mulheres que receberam o VDRL no pré-natal, 21% eram reagentes e 70,5% trataram a infecção. Destas, 69,4% utilizaram o esquema para sífilis terciária e 8,1% trataram com outras medicações. Conclusão O pré-natal não alcançou a efetividade na prevenção e rastreio da sífilis, uma vez que ocorreram mulheres reagentes para a infecção na admissão à maternidade, ainda que em menor proporção, sendo perdida a oportunidade de alcançar o controle da doença.
Resumo Com o objetivo de avaliar a incompletude no preenchimento da declaração de óbito (DO) nas Regionais de Saúde do estado de Pernambuco foi realizado um estudo descritivo a partir de informações sobre óbitos de menores de um ano residentes dos municípios de Pernambuco, provenientes do Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade, nos triênios de 1999-2001 e 2009-2011. Foi calculado o percentual de incompletude considerando o preenchimento em branco/ignorado dos campos da DO por Regional de Saúde e a taxa de variação proporcional da incompletude entre os dois triênios. Observou-se que o preenchimento não apresentou um padrão bem definido para as Regionais, ocorrendo redução da incompletude para a maioria das variáveis, entretanto, apenas as variáveis sexo, faixa etária e local de ocorrência do óbito atingiram incompletude ≤ 5% no segundo triênio de estudo, considerado excelente nos escores de Romero e Cunha. Apesar do decréscimo da incompletude das variáveis relacionadas à gestação e parto e relacionadas à mãe, foi observado no segundo triênio incompletude entre 10 e 20%, atingindo escore regular no triênio 2009-2011. Apesar da melhoria do preenchimento no Estado, faz-se necessário o fortalecimento da vigilância e dos Comitês de Prevenção do Óbito Infantil para qualificação do preenchimento da DO.
Estudo descritivo-exploratório, transversal, de abordagem quantitativa, realizado a partir de banco de dados secundários da II Pesquisa de Prevalência de Aleitamento Materno nas Capitais Brasileiras e Distrito Federal do ano de 2009. Possui o objetivo de avaliar a prevalência do uso de bicos artificiais em menores de um ano nos seis distritos sanitários (DS) do município do Recife-PE. Participaram do estudo 3.120 crianças. Destas, 1894(60,7%) utilizaram mamadeira e 1310(41,9%) usavam chupeta. O uso de mamadeira em cada DS variou entre 56%, no DS I e II e 63,2% no DS IV. O uso de chupeta apresentou número reduzido em relação ao uso de mamadeira, o DS III com 44,7% e os distritos I e II com 40,6%. Observou-se que é necessário prestar maiores esclarecimentos entre as mães a respeito dos efeitos prejudiciais destes hábitos, sobre a amamentação e à saúde da criança e processo de amamentar.
