Este artículo intenta dar cuenta de un nuevo sujeto que surge en el marco de las narrativas de la posdictadura uruguaya -pero fuera de las fronteras del Uruguay- en un lugar poco visitado por las ciencias sociales: el no retorno del exilio. Un espacio de experiencia, pero también de identidad, en donde surge un sujeto que se lee como “invisible” dentro del relato dominante de la posdictadura. Al no verse en ese relato, ni en ningún otro lugar, toma conciencia de su propia inexistencia y, en ese acto de autorreflexividad sobre sí mismo y su pasado, se constituye como hija exiliada no retornada. Un nombre -y una categoría sociológica- que encarna a hijas e hijos nacidos en Uruguay, exiliados durante su infancia o adolescencia y que, al menos con carácter permanente, no han vuelto a su país de origen. Unos actores que, desde el no retorno, tejen unas narrativas en donde los protagonistas del exilio ya no son los padres, sino los hijos/as.
