In view of the increase in the number of cosmetic preparations containing antioxidant vitamins, chiefly, due to their action in preventing the process of skin aging, there is a need to develop pre-formulation studies and to validate analytical methods in order to obtain high quality products. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate and compare the thermal behavior of tocopheryl acetate and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate as raw materials, and incorporated into a base cream. Thermogravimetry (TG / DTG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used for this purpose. Both vitamins were found to be stable up to 250ºC. The base cream (placebo) and the sample (base cream containing the vitamins) presented different weight loss. Thermal analysis has shown itself to be an excellent tool for the characterization of these vitamins and can be used in routine analysis for quality control of this type of cosmetic formulation.Uniterms: Thermal analysis. A rapid HPLC method was developed for the assay of tocopheryl acetate and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate in cosmetic formulations. The validated method was applied for quantitative determination of these vitamins in simulated emulsion formulation. Samples were analysed directly on a RP-18 reverse phase column with UV detection at 222 nm. A mixture of methanol and isopropanol (25 : 75 v/v) was used as mobile phase. The retention time of tocopheryl acetate and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate were 3.0 min and 5.9 min, respectively. Recovery was between 95% and 104%. In addition, the excipients did not interfere in the analysis. The method is simple, reproducible, selective and is suitable for routine analyses of commercial products.
The new generation of lipid nanoparticles with solid matrix are the NLC (Nanostructured lipid carriers), and these nanoparticles show increased chemical stability of drug, film formation, controlled occlusion, increased skin hydration, the bioavailability of the active skin is improved, increase the physical stability of lipid nanoparticles in topical formulations and lower toxicity. The NLC were produced by the technique of High Pressure Homogenization (HPH). The Accelerated Stability Test, also known as Normal Stability or exploratory, aims to provide data to predict product stability, shelf life and formulation compatibility with the packaging material. Therefore, this study aims: to evaluate the normal stability under varying conditions of temperature and luminosity over time as their physical and chemical characteristics in cosmetic formulation containing ursolic acid in free and nanoparticle forms. Based on the results, the ursolic acid in the nanostructured lipid carrier form achieved a better physical and chemical stability compared to ursolic acid in the free form in both variation of the viscosity and pH.
