Introdução: Com a evolução da Medicina, surgiu a necessidade de se ter uma nova abordagem ao paciente, de forma que se tivesse uma melhor conduta e atuação por parte da equipe da saúde. Nesse contexto, passa-se a ter as equipes interdisciplinares, as quais são formadas por profissionais de saúde de diferentes áreas de atuação: médicos, enfermeiros, técnicos de enfermagem, nutricionistas, fisioterapeutas, psicólogos, serviço social, odontólogos. Nessa dinâmica em equipe se tem pontos positivos, como a maior troca entre os profissionais, o que gera benefícios ao paciente, porém também se tem alguns problemas, como a dificuldade de comunicação entre diferentes especialistas. Objetivos: Elucidar a importância e a relevância das equipes interdisciplinares na área da saúde. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura, por intermédio da busca de artigos e textos publicados entre 1994 e 2021, utilizando os seguintes termos de pesquisa (palavras-chave e delimitadores): interdisciplinaridade, saúde, pacientes, equipe interdisciplinar. Foram utilizadas as bases de dados: Scielo, Pepsic, Google Acadêmico. Dessa forma, foram selecionados 10 artigos e textos na língua portuguesa para servir de base para este trabalho. Revisão de Literatura: O termo interdisciplinaridade, embora atualmente bastante difundido e empregado, foi proposto ainda no século XX e ainda apresenta algumas divergências a respeito do seu real significado. Com as mudanças sociais, econômicas e históricas ocorridas ao longo dos anos fizeram com que os problemas de saúde assumissem um caráter multifacetado, fazendo, dessa forma, surgir a necessidade de uma integração maior dos profissionais de saúde. A Medicina, pautada, principalmente, na busca pela cura dos enfermos, em muito pode se beneficiar do uso de equipes interdisciplinares, haja vista que a complexidade inerente a cada paciente exige que o profissional atue de acordo com sua área do saber para que o melhor tratamento individualizado seja ofertado. Contudo, se tem principalmente três obstáculos que impedem ou atrapalham a utilização da interdisciplinaridade pela equipe de saúde no tratamento dos pacientes: a ineficácia das instituições de ensino na formação de profissionais orientados para essa prática, a presença de uma estrutura rígida de poder por parte de algumas instituições e a inadequada operacionalização do próprio conceito de interdisciplinaridade durante o atendimento ao paciente. Conclusão: Portanto, embora existam vários benefícios associados à atuação das equipes interdisciplinares, ainda são necessárias mudanças no contexto atual para que o funcionamento adequado dessas diversas áreas seja otimizado.
