Abstract:This article aims to analyze the innovation landscape of the Brazilian pharmaceutical and pharmacochemical industries, from 2006 to 2014. This analysis is extremely relevant for the country, since the technological gap of the sector, besides being a problem for competitiveness and national economic development, corroborates to aggravate the public health problems we are experiencing. The methodology used was the exploratory and descriptive analysis of secondary data generated from the last three editions of Pintec -Pesquisa de Inovação / IBGE: 2008, 2011 and 2014. The following variables were analyzed: (1) type of innovation, (2) degree of innovation, (3) expenditures on innovative and R&D activities, (4) number of people engaged in R&D, (5) innovation in cooperation and (6) sources of funding. The observed results indicate that despite the increase in the absolute values of investments and human resources employed in R&D activities, the innovation rate of the sector has decreased. It should be noted that the period analyzed was marked by the economic crisis of 2008 and the economy stagnation in subsequent years, factors that may have contributed to the reduction of the innovative efforts.
