This study provides an overview and exploration of 23 national and international reflective teaching research reports. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent that reflective teaching can become a strategy for language teaching professional development. Based on content analysis four main topics emerged: (a) reflective teaching as an approach to enhance the language profession; (b) impact on teacher's performance; (c) support, time, and effort; and (d) in-service professional development. Conclusions indicated that reflective teaching is an alternative to raise awareness about English language teaching, and as a means to encourage teachers to open their minds, update their teaching methodologies, and make adjustments to their lessons.
Abstract
This paper reports an action research study on cooperative learning projects for engineering students at a public university. The study is aimed at improving reading skills through the use of four cooperative learning projects implemented during the English classes. Information gathered from a survey, a group’s interviews, and the teacher’s journal was collected and analyzed to determine the categories after being coded. Findings suggest that students significantly enhanced their reading skills by working cooperatively. Conclusions also highlight the notion that cooperative learning strengthens English reading skills and fosters leadership, decision making, communication and problem-solving abilities. Additionally it increases participation, motivation and goal achievement in Students language learning process.
This current study explores how video sharing and online discussions promote learning autonomy in English language classes in a public university for the duration of the quarantine established by the Colombian government during the coronavirus pandemic. This study was conducted with 127 engineering and administration undergraduates from a public university in the department of Boyacá. This was a qualitative case study which intended to identify the extent video sharing and online discussions increase learner’s autonomy behaviors in English language learning .The instruments for data collection were student journal, student artifact, including video recordings and online discussions, interviews, and questionnaires. An open coding analysis was utilized and the results revealed that the degree of autonomous behaviors gradually could be fostered by the implementation of video sharing. Results also indicated that students are receptive to online writing discussions and showed how motivation plays a vital role in learning English and the achievement of own learning goals.
This article focuses on how the incorporation of autonomy into university students’ learning process improves their English language performance. The participants of this study were 25 students of engineering programs in a public university. Data collection was done through observation, a survey, and a group interview. Two categories that emerged after the data analysis supported the main finding that technology-based activities can be conceived as a starting point for the incorporation of autonomous learning in the English language education at the university.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
