Background: Nurses have a variety of roles and functions associated with the patients' care undergoing cardiac catheterization. Nurses provide care of a patient before, during, and after cardiac catheterization procedure. Aim: This study aimed to assess nurses' performance regarding care of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. Subjects and Method: A descriptive research design was conducted. Setting: At cardiac catheterization unit at Port Said general hospital in Port-Said City and Al-Azhar university hospital in new Damietta city. Sample: A convenient sample of all available nurses (50) worked at previous mentioned settings. Tools: Three tools were used. Tool (I) Nurses' Knowledge Questionnaire. Tool (II) Observational Checklist. Tool (III) Nurses' Attitude Scale. Results:The result of present study indicated that more than half of studied nurses had satisfactory level of knowledge and practice respectively (52%, 62%) while, most of them (68%) had positive level of attitude regarding care of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. Conclusion: More than half of studied nurses had satisfactory knowledge and practice while most of them had positive attitude regarding care of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. In addition, there were no statistically significant correlation between total nurses' knowledge, practice and attitude scores.Recommendations: There are obvious needs for conducted an educational and training programs to improve nurses knowledge, practice and attitude regarding care of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization.
Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is major global concerns.CAD can cause more than 23 million deaths in 2030 around the world. Background: Angina pectoris is considered chest pain due to insufficient coronary artery blood flow and increased myocardial oxygen demand. Stable angina is a chronic disease that can progress to unstable angina or myocardial infarction. Lifestyle modification, medications, and cardiac intervention/ cardiothoracic surgery all play a part in its management. Aim of the study: To evaluate nurses' performance regarding caring of patients with angina attack at emergency and critical care units. Subjects and method: Anexploratory descriptive design was used to conduct this study on fifty nurses who are associated with giving direct care for patients in the emergency and critical care units at Alazhar University Hospital at new Damietta city. Data were collected by using two tools: Nurses' knowledge assessment questionnaire to assess nurses' knowledge regarding angina and observational checklists to assess their practices. The resultsof the present study concluded that 70% of studied nurses had a fair level of knowledge, while 62% of them had a fair knowledge score regarding angina care. As regarding practice, 60%of the studied sample had fair level of practice. There was a significant difference between level of nurses' knowledge and their practiceconcerning care, as well as highly statistical significant difference between nurses' characteristics; qualifications, job, and years of experience and their level of knowledge regarding care of patient. This study recommended that to improve nurses' performance regarding caring of patients with anginaeducational program should be conductedcontinuously.
Background: Palliative care is defined as a treatment given to control pain and undesirable symptoms of chronic or serious illnesses where there is no reasonable anticipation of a cure for patients. Determination patient and early referral to palliative care decrease suffering and improve symptom management in these patients; also it can reduce overall health care utilization and costs if initiated early in the disease course. Aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of Palliative Care Plan On end-stage renal disease Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis. Study design: A quasi-experimental design was used in the conduction of this study. Setting: This study was carried out at hemodialysis unit at Alazhar University Hospital at new Damietta city. Subjects: A convenient sample of 35 patients. Tools of Data Collection: The following tools were used to collect the necessary data:1) Structured interview sheet, 2) Self-care questionnaire, 3) Dialysis symptom index, and 4) Palliative care plan. Results: increased total mean score of patients knowledge and practice t ,with highly statistically significant differences at pre vs post test& pre vs follow up test (p <0.01) for both tests. Conclusion: the palliative care plan had positive effect in decreasing and control severity of those symptoms in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Recommendations Dialysis units should equipped by palliative care programs. Set up a counseling room in hemodialysis
Background: Implementing educational program on nurses' caring of patients undergoing nasogastric tube feeding is very important to prevent complications from feeding such as pulmonary aspiration, diarrhea, constipation, tube occlusion, displacement of the tube, abdominal cramping, nausea and vomiting, delayed gastric emptying and serum electrolyte imbalance. Aim of this study: This study was aiming to evaluate the effect of educational program on nurses' knowledge related to care of patients undergoing nasogastric tube feeding. It also aims to design, implement and evaluate an educational program for nurses' caring of patients undergoing nasogastric tube feeding. Research design: A quasi experimental design was used. Setting: The study was conducted in intensive care unit at Al-Azhar university hospital in new Damietta city. Subject: The study involved all available nurses' worked with patients undergoing nasogastric tube feeding in intensive care unit at Al-Azhar university hospital about (30 nurse). Tool of data collection: Data were collected using nurses' knowledge questionnaire sheet. Results: Total mean knowledge score regarding caring of patients undergoing nasogastric tube feeding were improved, as good score was 48.77±9.60 preprogram while it reached 96.66±5.02 after implementation of the educational program, 90.77±6.23 after 3 months and 85.88±7.25after 6 months later. Conclusion:Implementation of educational program for nurses' caring of patients undergoing nasogastric tube feeding significantly improved the nurses' total level of knowledge. Recommendation: The study recommended continuous educational programs should be planned on regular basis to nurses' about nasogastric tube feeding for enhancing nurses' knowledge and to achieve high quality of care.
