El absceso hepático es una colección de material supurativo encapsulada ubicada en el parénquima hepático, clasificado mayoritariamente como piógeno o amebiano. Se presenta el caso de un paciente masculino de 35 años quien presenta desde hace un mes alzas térmicas recurrentes y dolor abdominal en hipocondrio derecho. Se efectuó ecografía en el punto de atención abdominal, evidenciándose lesión ovalada en segmentos hepáticos V, VII y VIII, de 13 cm x 11 cm x 11 cm, de bordes regulares, heterogéneo, ecomixto con reforzamiento acústico posterior y ecos internos, sin vascularización interna al doppler. Se indicó antibioticoterapia empírica y se planteó para drenaje percutáneo guiado por ultrasonido inalámbrico. Sobre la base de la literatura consultada y la experiencia personal, se aconseja la realización del drenaje percutáneo de este tipo de abscesos, guiados por ultrasonido inalambrico a pie de cama en pacientes seleccionados, demostrando que el mismo es seguro, barato y eficaz.
