A nivel mundial se observa un problema latente asociado con la salud bucal de la población, puesto que aproximadamente 2400 millones de personas padecen de caries de dientes permanentes. Tradicionalmente, la fluorización es la estrategia más común para brindar una solución adecuada que permita disminuir las elevadas estadísticas de caries en niños y adultos en todo el mundo. Las vías más comunes para desarrollar dicha estrategia son la fluorización del agua potable y la sal común. Por tanto, en el presente trabajo se analizan estas estrategias como vías para establecer programas preventivos de salud oral. En conclusión, los métodos de fluorización en agua y sal de mesa han demostrado ser efectivos en diferentes naciones, sin embargo, el programa preventivo de salud bucal aplicado sobre el cloruro de sodio representa ventajas significativas en cuanto a la relación costo/beneficio y a la cobertura en la población; más aún en países como Ecuador, en el que según las estadísticas de los organismos pertinentes, se alcanzan bajos niveles de accesibilidad al agua potable. La presente investigación se realiza en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí, con el objeto de apoyar en la planificación y actividades educativas que tienen como fin capacitar a pacientes y a sus acompañantes que esperan ser atendidos en el Centro de atención en la Facultad de Odontología de la ULEAM, para adquirir comportamientos que favorezcan la salud bucodental a través de un programa audiovisual de técnicas de higiene bucal. Este estudio es de tipo descriptivo, transversal y analítico. Se hace referencia a los programas preventivos promocionales de salud bucal, con revisión de conceptos de los determinantes de la salud, prevención y promoción. Donde se concluye que la técnica audiovisual se inserta en una metodología que desarrolla a los participantes como sujetos activos, capaces de construir nuevos conocimientos; el programa que se desarrolla se espera contribuya al mejoramiento de la salud oral. La hipertensión arterial es una problemática sanitaria latente en todo el mundo, de modo que esta enfermedad crónica es muy frecuente a escala nacional y se constituye en la primera causa de muerte a nivel mundial, con una prevalencia promedio del 25%. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este artículo es revisar la literatura científica propuesta en bases de datos de acceso abierto según las variables establecidas para la búsqueda de información. Las variables fueron: hipertensión arterial, factores de riesgo y manifestaciones clínicas. En total se revisaron 24 documentos, incluyendo libros, estadísticas de instituciones de salud, reportes de salud y manuscritos científicos publicados en revistas indexadas en Scopus, ScIELO y Redalyc. Se menciona que el control absoluto de esta enfermedad depende de elementos como el gasto cardíaco y la resistencia periférica total; además, la mayoría de los pacientes que padecen esta patología no presentan signos y síntomas específicos con relación a la hipertensión arterial; comúnmente son identificados en un examen médico rutinario, y se ha evidenciado que este trastorno crónico asintomático genera lesiones en el corazón, riñones, vasos sanguíneos y cerebro.
