El objetivo fue caracterizar el perfil del docente que imparte cátedra en entornos virtuales de aprendizaje (EVA). Con enfoque fenomenológico, se recolectó información de grupos focales de docentes de instituciones de educación superior de la región noroeste de México. Los resultados reflejan que el profesor de EVA asume varios roles: diseñador gráfico, de contenido, corrector de estilo y administrador de la plataforma, actividades que a la postre pueden demeritar la calidad de su cátedra. El maestro es un facilitador que utiliza Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación (TIC) como medio de interacción; requiere capacitación en TIC, pedagogía de la virtualidad y disciplinariamente. Los hallazgos pueden servir como sustento para delinear estrategias en beneficio de la calidad educativa en modalidades no convencionales.
La contribución de la universidad a la sociedad se ve concretada en la formación de ciudadanos con las características que esta espera, individuos capaces de resolver problemáticas complejas con profesionalismo y sentido ético. En la actual sociedad del conocimiento, esta formación originó que las universidades transitaran de un modelo enciclopédico de mera transmisión de información a otro que fomente la formación de individuos capaces de afrontar la creciente complejidad de los fenómenos sociales y resolverlos con un enfoque integral, a partir de múltiples visiones. En el caso particular de los estudiantes de posgrado, este enfoque favorece el desarrollo de estudiantes con habilidades informacionales, tales como el manejo de tecnologías de información, habilidades críticas de fuentes de información así como el desarrollo de habilidades comunicativas y trabajo colaborativo en el entorno de la web 2.0. En México, las instituciones de educación superior reconocen la importancia de enseñar estas competencias científicas en sus estudiantes, pero sin descuidar los aspectos de ética y habilidades sociales como rasgos complementarios que les permitirán desempeñarse con éxito en la profesión. La deserción estudiantil y la eficiencia terminal han sido una preocupación constante para las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES). Se presenta un análisis de las causas de deserción escolar a partir del discurso de estudiantes de la Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua. El análisis se realizó con 1637 registros de bajas temporales y definitivas del año 2010 al 2019, de 1243 estudiantes de la carrera de cirujano dentista. Las bajas temporales se dan por factores: Personales y Familiares (21.8%), Económicos y Laborales (21.3%), Maternidad (13%) y Vocacionales (10.4%). Los factores familiares, económicos, laborales y de maternidad son más comunes a mayor edad. Las estrategias de retención y permanencia deben enfocarse en el aspecto académico, así como mejorar los mecanismos de ingreso.
Los entornos virtuales del aprendizaje (EVA) han ganado espacio en la educación superior. Actualmente no se concibe la educación sin utilizar las tecnologías de la información en el contexto de la pedagogía de la virtualidad. El presente artículo tiene como propósito exponer en qué consisten los entornos virtuales del aprendizaje en la disciplina de odontología, y cuáles son los requerimientos pedagógicos y tecnológicos para su ejecución. En las disciplinas del área de la salud en general, y en la odontología en particular, existe la necesidad de implementar los EVA en los diferentes programas académicos. Esta forma de allegarse del aprendizaje debe ser motivadora para que el estudiante auto regule su propio conocimiento, y lo suficientemente versátil para que el profesor apoye su cátedra en ella. Los autores proponen un modelo b-learning que combine la cátedra presencial y virtual. La carrera de odontología tiene grandes posibilidades para desarrollar prácticas y experiencias en realidades virtuales, valiosas en su proceso de formación académica, y que el estudiante podrá aplicar en su práctica clínica.
