AbstractThe ambience is an extremely relevant issue considering the need for further exploration to extrinsic human aspects and how they influence in its aging, so that the best conditions of environment generate more quality in the meeting among people. Understanding their influence on social relations enables the characterization and recognition of elements that act as strong adjuvants to subjective wellness of individuals participating in any space, whether public or private, with activity or gathering. This article results from a literature review based on theoretical research seeking to combine issues such as the composition of the built space, object of architecture, and its impact on human behavior typically seen in isolation. This reflection is based on field research now under way and enabled the generation of tools for data collection used in interviews and participant observation.Palavras-chave: Arquitetura. Bem-Estar. Purpose This study aims to present improvisation training and experimentation as an alternative method to deal with unexpected events in which structured processes do not seem to work. Design/methodology/approach Based on the literature of sensemaking and improvisation, the study designs a framework and process model of experimental learning supported by a case study of Brazilian Government agents involved in an experimental process of learning fundamental for interacting with scenarios that require improvisation. Findings This study supports the proposition that improvisation capability can be improved through experimental learning to generate better decision-making in uncertainty. In the case study, the lessons and group experiences of the experimental learning course helped agents to build tools to deal with events that required improvisation. Research limitations/implications This study investigated only one case and recommends that the framework of experimental learning that this study developed be extended to other organizations. Originality/value This study provides a framework and a process model for analyzing complex situations and context that require improvisation and suggests another way for leaders to deal with uncertain scenarios.
In 2015, a report led by the mentors of the World Health Organization Age-friendly cities program, proposed a review of the concept of active aging, including, alongside the three pillars (health, security and participation), lifelong learning, both as formal education (access to grade and diplomas), and in their informal dimension (when learning take places in daily life or in leisure activities). This study aims to analyze if the question of lifelong learning was raised and what the salient themes were related to that topic during the discussions of some of the focus groups of a research that applied the "Age-friendly cities" method in two neighborhoods of São Paulo. The two focus groups were conducted in 2016 in Mooca neighborhood: one composed of 5 residents between 60 and 75 years old, and one of 6 residents aged 76 years and over. Although the age-friendly cities guidelines did not predict specific questions about lifelong learning, the theme came up with a number of nuances in the discourses. Five general content categories have been achieved: 1) Learning: Activities and Spaces; 2) Learning and Accessibility; 3) Education: Respect, Consideration; 4) Learning and Work; 5) Learning and Aging. There was little emphasis on formal education, but aspects related to respect for older people and opportunities for leisure and social participation were quite present. In participants view, the simple offer of activities does not guarantee lifelong learning, since different types of barriers may make it difficult for older people to access them. Moreover, participants recognize not only the importance of educational activities This article is based on data collected through a larger research funded by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP), Auxílio Regular: 2015/08447-0.
