Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre la función familiar y el riesgo de padecer trastornos mentales, particularmente ansiedad, consumo problemático de alcohol y síntomas psicóticos, en adolescentes que cursan los grados sexto a once en tres colegios de Bogotá. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal realizado en 1025 estudiantes. Se utilizó un cuestionario para indagar variables sociodemográficas que incluía, además, el Cuestionario de Síntomas para Adolescentes, Jóvenes y Adultos de la OMS (SRQ) y el APGAR familiar como herramientas de tamizaje para riesgo de trastornos mentales y funcionalidad familiar, respectivamente. Resultados: Se encuestaron 1025 estudiantes. 68,1 % percibe una buena función familiar y 4,7 % disfunción severa. De acuerdo a los resultados del test SRQ, 48,2 % presenta riesgo de ansiedad, 16,6 % de consumo problemático de alcohol y 45,5 % de síntomas sicóticos. Se encontró relación estadística entre la funcionalidad familiar y el riesgo de presentar ansiedad y manifestaciones sicóticas. Conclusión: Se debe fortalecer la dinámica familiar para promover una buena salud mental en los adolescentes.
