HBIM modeling presupposes a series of methodological and content questions depending on the type of historic building being investigated. A particular case refers to a multitude of buildings, isolated or aggregated, that sprinkle our territory that do not stand out for their valuable architectural characteristics abandoned for different reasons and turned to ruins. This building category retains a valuable judgment when the typological constructive characteristics are recognized as explanations of “making architecture”, strongly linked to a place and to a time and that are worth preserving. The study of a ruin as a building typology involves various issues starting from the survey, both in terms of structure stability and room accessibility, and in terms of survey techniques to be used to acquire geometries that have lost their original conformation. The loss and deformation of the shape are therefore the main obstacles in the reconstruction of the historical evolutionary phases, fundamental for the definition of a recovery project that respects the nature of the building, now in a state of instability. Informed digital models, soon mandatory by law in most building processes, applied to the ruins thus become not only a means of documenting, cataloging, and communicating the built heritage but, above all, a tool that serves the project.

Il contributo si inserisce nell'ambito della modellazione digitale per la rappresentazione, comunicazione e valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale costruito. In particolare, la ricerca pone l'attenzione sulla trasversalità dei modelli parametrici informati nell'ambito dell'Information and Communication Tecnologies (ICT). Il processo BIM, nato per il controllo delle procedure edilizie e di gestione dell'intero ciclo di vita dell'edificio (progettazione, realizzazione, manutenzione, dismissione) applicato al campo dell'Heritage comprende ulteriori aspetti, non previsti dal processo "tradizionale", legati principalmente alla conoscenza del bene (analisi documentali storiche, rilievo, indagini diagnostiche, etc), alla rappresentazione di uno stato di fatto storicizzato e al suo stato di conservazione, al progetto di manutenzione, recupero, restauro e valorizzazione. La procedura proposta declina il modello matematico HBIM, dedicato agli operatori del settore, nell'ambito della comunicazione e della disseminazione del bene culturale attraverso l'uso di applicativi multimediali (realtà virtuale e realtà aumentata) che sono invece rivolti al fruitore. La metodologia viene sperimentata analizzando come caso di studio una Fortezza Pisana dell'Isola d'Elba.

The chapter proposes the definition of a workflow aimed at the BIM modeling of historical architectures referable to the classical language of Renaissance treatises. Through the experimentation on a case study conditioned by pre-existences, the authors exploit the potential offered by BIM software to contain standardized and rewritable information through the management of the temporal phases. Starting from the discontinuous model, ideal geometries are defined using a continuous mathematical language. These geometries are gradually adapted to the case study by consecutive steps of modification. The different phases of the modeling are recorded in the database, favoring the transparency of the process. HBIM thus becomes an instrument not only of modeling and documentation, but also of analysis and interpretation of the architectural complexity of the historical built heritage.
