El artículo busca identificar el abordaje conceptual de ciudadanía y participación ciudadana que se expresa en el programa de Educación Cívica del tercer ciclo y la educación diversificada del sistema educativo costarricense. Para el alcance del objetivo, se desarrolló un análisis documental. El proceso inició con la lectura general del Programa de Educación Cívica “Ética, Estética y Ciudadanía” del Ministerio de Educación Pública, en el cual se estableció la ausencia o presencia de las unidades de análisis: ciudadanía agonística, ciudadanía peligrosa, ciudadanía global, participación ciudadana colectiva y otras perspectivas como ciudadanía democrática. Seguidamente, se determinó la frecuencia de conceptos de cada unidad, partiendo de las dimensiones teórica y de aplicabilidad, las cuales visibilizan una tendencia de memorización de los contenidos en los aprendizajes esperados del programa.
Se describen las narrativas históricas de la Independencia de Centroamérica, en el contexto de la conmemoración del Bicentenario, presentes en las personas estudiantes del último año de Educación Diversificada, del Colegio Redentorista en la zona urbana de Alajuela, Costa Rica, con el fin de analizar la memoria histórica de personas que han cursado el Bachillerato de Educación General Básica costarricense. Para ello se realizó un estudio de caso con cuatro alumnos, a través de un taller con tres momentos de la investigación. Los datos obtenidos facilitan la reconstrucción y el reconocimiento de las narrativas históricas de los estudiantes y permiten identificar la conciencia histórica que tienen, en relación con la independencia de Centroamérica.
