Starting from a constructivist conception of teaching and learning at school, this research work aims to study trol transfer as a mechanism of educational influence within the framework of teacher-student's joint activity, respect to academic contents or tasks. To this end, we analyse a range of teaching and learning activities involvi teacher and a group of 6 4 years-old preschoolers working on the first numbers of the natural numerical sequ using board games. The data -observational in nature-were compiled from three consecutive didactic sequ related to the teaching and learning of mathematics in preschool education. The results show: first, that con transfer in this interaction functions via both 'a priori' and 'a posteriori' mechanisms; these mechanisms are relat the nature of the task.
In this article we present and discuss an integrated system of continuous assessment (ISCA) in higher education, designed to collect multiple evidences of students' knowledge and abilities, and to facilitate monitoring and support of their learning processes. Inspired by a socioconstructivist approach, which assumes a close relation between teaching, learning and assessment, this system combines different types of activities, organized around blocks of broad themes, and aimed at acquiring information on content comprehension as well as its application and functional use in authentic contexts. The educational innovation experience which constitutes the framework in which this system was developed and applied took place during the 2005-2006 school year. It was carried out in three class groups of "Educational Psychology", a mandatory course for the Bachelor's degree in Psychology, based on ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), using a teaching methodology focused on the student, and the support of information and communication technology (ICT). The experience was planned and developed by the consolidated group for teaching innovation in educational psychology (GIDPE) at the University of Barcelona. Results uphold a positive assessment of students' academic achievement, as well as their satisfaction with participation in the experience. Two conclusions are worthy of mention. The first is that the ISCA proved to be an effective instrument, useful for acquiring evidence of the learning processes and for administering and managing different educational helps to students in these processes. The second is that the strength and usefulness of the ISCA consists in the integration of options and criteria as a whole rather than in applying any one criterion or option separately.
Technological tools have permeated higher education programs. However, their mere introduction does not guarantee instructional quality. This article presents the results of an innovation project aimed at fostering autonomous learning among students at a Pre-School and Primary Teacher Grade. For one semester all freshmen students used a system for autonomous learning embedded in the institutional online platform (Moodle), which included automatic formative feedback. The system was part of a complex formative assessment program. We present results of the experience concerning two aspects: the students’ actual use of the system, and their final appraisal of it. The quantitative descriptive analysis focuses on the students’ perspective to evaluate the adequacy of the instructional decisions. Results indicate that students need certain limits to be able to manage their learning better if we pursue the quality of innovation. These limits refer mainly to the time of accessibility and the limitation of attempts of practice. With respect to time, an appropriate span of time (neither too long nor too short) must be chosen; with respect to the number of attempts, it is expedient to limit rather than promote free endless access.
The study analyses cognitive presence in participants' posts in an online discussion forum. It focuses on the relationships between the cognitive level of participants' posts, the degree in which learning content is used by the participants in the posts, and the sociocognitive level of the collective discussion. The participants were 17 first-year Primary Teaching students. The results show that there are consistencies and discrepancies between the different dimensions measuring cognitive presence. They support the need to adopt a broader approach to the study of cognitive presence in order to better understand the quality of learning in text-based asynchronous learning environments.
