El objetivo de este estudio es determinar la relación entre el número de cepillados por día e índice periodontal en escolares de 12 años de la parroquia Yanuncay, Cuenca- Ecuador en el año 2016. Se revisaron registros de 177 fichas electrónicas que pertenecen al estudio Mapa epidemiológico para escolares, siendo 86 del sexo femenino y 91 del sexo masculino. El 58.8 % tiene un cepillado 3 veces al día. Se destaca como factor de riesgo relevante la frecuencia de cepillado. La prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal es del 30% de todos los niños, empezando con gingivitis el 23% y 7% como inicio de enfermedad periodontal, debido a la presencia de placa dental como factor etiológico. En conclusión, el correcto aseo de la cavidad oral evitará la formación y progreso de enfermedad periodontal.
