O presente trabalho tem o intuito de problematizar, a partir da sociedade midiática, o processo de transformação do corpo e da beleza em mercadorias. Corpo e beleza adquirem então status de objetos, o que os torna passíveis de serem inseridos em um sistema econômico, investidos de valor, motivos de desejo e, portanto, consumidos. A discussão aqui realizada é de caráter bibliográfico e versou sobre as diferentes abordagens de consumo (BACCEGA, 2008; BAUDRILLARD, 2010; BARBOSA; CAMPBELL, 2006); o sistema de produção capitalista, a produção e a estetização da mercadoria e seus diferentes valores (ANDRADE, 2007; BAUDRILLARD, 2010; HAUG, 1997); centralidade do corpo e da beleza na cultura contemporânea, sob o viés da mídia (GOLDENBERG, 2007; GOLDENBERG; RAMOS, 2007; NOVAES, 2011; SIBILIA, 2005; SOARES-CORREIA, 2015).
