La situación actual en Honduras y a nivel mundial ha cambiado drásticamente con la aparición de un nuevo tipo de coronavirus que produce el Síndrome Respiratorio Agudo Severo (SARSCoV-2) (Covid 19). Lo que inicialmente se creía causaba sintomatología similar a un simple resfriado u otras patologías respiratorias virales comunes, ha evolucionado y ocasionado daños catastróficos con innumerables pérdidas humanas y económicas. Muchas han sido las formas de presentación del reciente coronavirus, el cual ha demostrado en múltiples reportes de casos a nivel mundial que ataca diferentes sistemas; como ser el gastrointestinal, respiratorio, cardíaco y cutáneo en los diferentes grupos etarios. No obstante, el cuadro que aparece en algunos casos de población pediátrica es mucho menos severo, con manifestaciones muy leves como rinorrea, congestión nasal, fatiga, fiebre, tos, entre otros.(1) También hay reportes de casos de COVID-19 positivo que inicialmente manifestaron una erupción cutánea sin síntomas respiratorios; éstos cuadros cutáneos podrían ser el preludio de un paciente infectado y ante ésta sospecha, se puede prevenir la transmisión de la enfermedad; así́ como también establecer el diagnóstico y tratamiento oportuno
La Enfermedad de Kawasaki (EK) o Síndrome de Kawasaki, es una enfermedad febril aguda, de etiología desconocida, que afecta mayormente a población pediátrica menor de 5 años y es una causa común de patología cardíaca en estos grupos etarios. Su diagnóstico es definido por la presencia de ciertos criterios clínicos característicos como fiebre persistente de al menos 5 días de evolución, linfadenopatías cervicales unilaterales, inyección conjuntival, alteraciones en la mucosa oral, edema en extremidades y como parte de las complicaciones severas que puede presentar, se incluyen la formación de aneurismas en las arterias coronarias, entre otros. Actualmente, el mundo se ha detenido por la aparición del nuevo SARS CoV-2 (Covid-19), que se ha dado a conocer por sus efectos devastadores, tanto por sus abundantes pérdidas humanas y su enorme golpe en las diferentes economías mundiales. Ya es conocida la relación de otros coronavirus humanos que se han vinculado con la EK, sin embargo es de reciente aparición, algunos reportes de casos en varios países, que vinculan pacientes pediátricos que cumplen criterios de EK con la infección confirmada de SARS CoV-2.En el presente escrito, se describirá la posible vinculación de éste nuevo virus con la Enfermedad de Kawasaki.
