Os estudos de midiatização começaram com pesquisadores das Ciências Sociais analisando a influência da mídia na vida social. No contexto latino-americano, Jesús Martín-Barbero, García Canclini e Guilherme Orozco ampliaram as pesquisas a partir do conceito de mediações culturais e a relação da comunicação centralizada na cultura. No Brasil, pesquisadores como o professor da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Eneus Trindade, se dedica a estudar a midiatização em um paralelo com mediações culturais com ênfase nos estudos sobre as relações de consumo.Nessa entrevista a ComSertões, o professor analisa como as mídias estão presentes na vida cotidiana e como essa presença transforma as dinâmicas socioculturais. Ele discute também a tendência da publicidade em disseminar temas sociais com combate à opressão das minorias. Para Eneus, o consumo pode ser um lugar de inclusão, de tolerância e de respeito à diversidade na sociedade.
