The world is changing at an increasing pace. We are living in a time of dramatic transformations such as globalization with its impact on economic competitiveness and social cohesion, international mobility, new occupations and careers, advances in technology and its use. Such processes affected the higher education of many countries, including Russia, and created the concept of global education. Nowadays our students have the opportunity and challenge of living and working in such a diverse and rapidly changing world. Thus, renewing the educational concept of universities is becoming relevant. In this article, the authors consider definitions and dimensions of global competence as an essential component of training young specialists as well as 21st century learning in the context of global competence. The authors present how global competence is defined as the combination of the four dimensions and how each dimension builds on specific knowledge, skills, attitudes and values: Also, the paper considers the ways of renewing higher education in Russia and points of growth.
This article presents the features of teaching listening to students of a non-linguistic university using podcasts. Being a perceptual type of speech activity, listening is nevertheless inextricably linked with productive types - speaking and writing, therefore, it is impossible to talk about the formed foreign language communicative competence without proper development of listening skills. The podcasts used in the work in the classroom do not have to be authentic, in contrast to the exercises for them - it is the authenticity of the exercises, i.e., their correspondence to the real conditions of communication, increases the motivation of non-linguistic students and contributes to the most effective formation of skills. Working with podcasts as a means of developing students' listening skills can be organized using the well-known three-step model of teaching the types of speech activities. The authors consider sample exercises for each of the three levels, emphasizing the importance of continuity of exercises and the need to adapt the material and exercises to the level of language training of the group. In conclusion, the authors conclude that podcasts in teaching French are a really effective means of developing listening skills in a non-linguistic university, since their didactic potential allows not only the teacher to organize work in the classroom, but also gives students a tool to create a strategy for self-education by means of the French language outside the classroom.
Abstract. The paper considers the current state of the higher education system of the Russian Federation in the context of teaching disciplines of strength cycle with the use of information educational technologies. The educational process in the discipline "Structural Mechanics" is shown by using the Controlling-Training Software on the sample program "Statically Determinate Plane Truss". Such software was developed by employees of the Department of Structural Mechanics of the Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering of Volgograd State Technical University to heighten student's interest in calculations of building structures while using computer-based teaching methods, as well as to simplify the existing monitoring procedure. The Controlling-Training Software makes it possible not only to consolidate but also to independently assess the acquired theoretical knowledge. Working with this program displays all necessary information: the calculated scheme, the area of issues, an area with a commentary on the input response. Help files contain a sufficient amount of theoretical material with examples of solutions. Students have several attempts to enter their answer. If they are unsuccessful, then the screen displays the correct answer with visual graphic illustration and explanation of this issue. Carrying out the educational process by use of the Controlling-Training Software resulted in saving a significant amount of academic time.
